How do I not get frozen by Celcius??

Guys I'm really stumped. I made it into the first actual level in the dungeon and I have no idea what to do. When I go to the room to the left a bomb explodes and kills me. When I go to the room to the right I can get the "path" spell but the only thing that seems to do is open the middle door a little then close before I can get through. What do I do here? Do I need to make a different spell? The items don't seem to do anything....

I just found out about this game a few minutes ago, and wishlisted it for its old-school Myst vibes. After some cursory research, I found out that Paul Boland, the creator of Dungeoneer and the award-winning 90s series Knightmare, died in January. It's pretty sad. Though I also can't help but wonder, where does his share of the profits from this game go now......
