The game isn't that good
Not sure why it's hyped up so much the gameplay and story is average and game is just meh in general. not a bait thread but just wanting to know why it's held in such a high regard.

It was waaaay ahead of its time and has lots of details for that time. The gameplay and the story are amazing in my opinion, and also I like the oldschool graphics (personal opinion). That is why I like this and quake-styled games. HL (and Vice City) are also the first games I have played, so they will always stay in my heart.

i probably haven't played far enough in the game yet but so far the only story I really got was they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and theres aliens everywhere and you're trying to kill them / escape (not sure).

There's some more stuff involved, and you're probably just not far enough into the story to learn what's going on.

I'd say Half-Life 1's most notable quality is it's release date. Compared to PC games of a similar genre, this game actually had a decent story and prettty good level design. This game was released in 1998 when the SNES was still alive. ♥♥♥♥ it might have some of the best or most acceptable voice acting which wasn't consistently great back then. I wouldn't say it's a 10/10 game, and I didn't play it when it launched, but I can only assume a lot of people that played it at launch felt it was one of the most developed games of it's time.

I respect your opinion there, but ill definitely have to disagree with this one.

Half-Life's gameplay is far, far more than average. While i do admit the story is average, the gameplay mattered more for me.

basically the reason the game is held so highly is because it used extremely modern graphics and design, story i agree was alright but still its not a bad game and this is also from 1998 and also it came with its own (soon to be) online game store. this was out before PSN or XBL this was out before consoles had that feature.

the game is hyped because it was basically a game from 2004 but somehow was possible in 98 . funny story i had upgraded my ram on my old 98 laptop to 128mb of ram xD it still ran this game lol they didnt have standard amounts of ram space xD
