Errors in Startup
So i bought this game in it's sale (it was like, 1 dollar), and i bought it, fresh from finishing the original Deus Ex. I finished the download in less than a week. When it was done, i started the game. There was nothing popping up. I went back to the desktop and found an error text. Most of it was just some stats and technical stuff, but one thing said:

Exception 0xC0000005: Access Violation

So... yeah. There's an error. Already. So, i restarted the system and validated all of the files, but it's still the same problem. Then, i went to the local files and started the game using the dx2.exe. But after a few seconds, it'll say "Failed to find Steam" What?

So... yeah. I can't play the game, after waiting to download it. :( Anyone can help? It'll be greatly appreciated. ;)

I think DX2 has some issues with modern graphic card drivers. I had this issue once before but I can't remember how I fixed it because it was many years ago. :-/

Well, we're screwed. :|

So, your's work? Can you even remember even ONE thing? Because if i can't fix this, i wasted 1 dollar. :P

Tried that, did not work. Still said: "Failed to Load Steam".

Not even a penny. xD

Try copying and paste the Steam.dll into steamapps\common\Deus Ex Invisible War\System

Let me know if that works, if not than we'll try something else

just copied the steam.dll from outside the common folder and pasted it in the system folder, still did not work. :(

hm... maybe it has something to do with the fact that i put the Deus Ex game in the D: folder, not in the C: folder..... do you think so?

I have mine installed on the same drive as Steam, which is C:. I cannot play either. Gets to main menu and hangs.

EDIT: Tried the above posted patch. It didn't work for me either. :(

At least you can go to the main menu, before hanging. :(

So.... are we out of options?

I never had the main menu problem before, I think I was using Windows Vista when I first played it. Someone said on a different forum that Invisible War has difficulty reading newer graphic drivers. It could be a Steam-only problem because I used the retail DVD. My suggestions would be to run the game in compatibility mode. Download and install older ATI or Nivida Phyx drivers. Download and install all the different fan patches that address these issues. Verily the game files. Keep googling until you find the issue solution. If all else fails you can buy an old 2004 era graphics card and run Windows XP as your OS. Then the game should work.

Hopefully Square Enix will re-release Deus Ex 1 & 2 with Workshop and modern OS support. That would be awesome.

I know you probably don't want to buy the game a second time, but the version being sold on GOG might work better, as they tend to patch up compatability stuff (It lists compatability with Vista, 7, and 8)

Beyond that, you may want to see this page: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Deus_Ex:_Invisible_War

PC gaming wiki basically lists every known fix for things, so its a good place to check if you're having an issue.

So, Google Chrome is causing the black screen issue? interesting... I never liked Chrome anyway :-D

Uninstall Invisible War, and then install it again.

Could be the multiprocessor issue I was having on my 64 bit quad-core PC. Try this to force the game to run on only one processor. The following is for the retail version of the game so you'll need to browse to where your Steam version is located to see if it will work for you.

1) Download imagecfg from https://robpol86.com/guides/ImageCFG/ to your game system directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Deus Ex - Invisible War\System)
2) Start, Run, Type cmd.exe and hit enter
3) Type cd c:\Program Files (x86)\Deus Ex - Invisible War\System
4) Type copy "DX2.exe" "DX2.backup.exe"
5) Type copy "DX2Main.exe" "DX2Main.backup.exe"
6) Type copy "Ion Launcher.exe" "Ion Launcher.backup.exe"
7) Type imagecfg -u DX2.exe
8) Type imagecfg -u DX2Main.exe
9) Type imagecfg -u "Ion Launcher.exe"
10) Play game.
