Deus Ex: Revision
Release seems to be right around the corner for the Revision mod. I'm about to do my first playthrough once it launches due to it having Shifter/New Vision/HDTP in one installer, but I've also heard the level design is changed and expanded. Should I just figure out how to get mods working properly, or would I be fine playing Revision my first time through?

Uuuhm, no, actually it's really recommended to play the default game (with modern tweaks for resolutions, adding cut content...). You'll (very possibly) love the game, forget about it for some time and then play the shiny and fancy Revision mode. Trust me, it'll be worth it.

You absolutely shouldn't. Play it vanilla first, that's my advice.

I almost never play games more than once. Why do you feel vanilla would be better than with this mod?

Don't.
Fist off, Revision might not be out for a long time still (no offense to the devs, but this mod has been "almost done" for years now).
Deus Ex is a great game that should be appreciated for what it it, as it is. Once Revision is out, you can use it for your second playtrough. If it turns out to be good, your prior experience with vanilla game will make you appreciate Revision even more.

Rare are those who play Deus Ex only once.

Anyways, I'm never for using total overhaul mods when experiencing some game for the first time.

As the Production Manager on the mod I even urge you to play the original before. This mod is really intended for people that have played the original and gotten somewhat bored with the empty environments. We not only change the environments and add detail (and thus changing the gameplay a bit) but we also balance the game so it's slightly harder, especially on Realistic. So it's really geared toward people that understand the original game mechanics already.

Slightly harder or giving actual challenge?

MrRobotBear, would you recommend to just play Deus Ex as delivered from Steam, with no modifications or mods whatsoever?

Give this video a look over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmKri9tZcIo
While we are at the subject of increased difficulty, I really hope that author of excellent GMDX will eventually make his mod fully compatible with Revision's full release.

Depends on what difficulty you play on. If you play on Realistic it will be hard, we've filtered a lot of ammo and pickups and some enemies will only show up on Realistic or Hard.

We bundle all mods we require and recommend for the ultimate experience, everything pre-configured. It's best to install this on a fresh install to avoid conflicts, but it should work on any install really.

Will GOG user be able to enjoy DX Revision?

Maybe, we'll see.

:steamsalty::steamsalty::steamsalty: It would be very unfourtunate if there won't be a normal downloadable version.
