Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

[GUIDE] Get Deus Ex ready for modern hardware (UNMODDED "2000" STYLE)
I thought I would create a guide for people who want to play Deus Ex COMPLETELY vanilla on a modern PC to experience exactly what it was like to play back in 2000.

This guide is adapted from Schmatzler’s excellent guide here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/6910/discussions/0/613936673444809191/

The main differences are the complete lack of texture update mods or any bells and whistles that change the way the game was intended to look. I’ve also included some detailed tweaks that ensure complete graphical accuracy since some default settings on updated renderers remove effects or introduce unintended glitches.

You may come across settings that seem suspect such as setting frame rate to 50, or running the game with precache on, BUT THERE ARE GOOD REASONS WHY you would do this (to ensure underwater effects are displayed/water animations are a reasonable speed and to prevent cutscene dialogue from being cut off, respectively).

Step 1: Update outdated maps

All maps in the Game of the Year edition are outdated when compared to the latest patch of the original version. To fix these and get rid of some bugs, run this:
http://www.dxm.be/navigator.php5?lang=en&content=202

Step 2: Fix a bug that prevents the story from progressing

There is a bug left where you can't play the game further, because an NPC is missing.
Download the unofficial patch here:
https://code.google.com/p/deusexv2/

Extract the ZIP file to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Deus Ex/System.

Step 3: Install DeusExe

Kentie is a good guy - he wrote a lot of renderers and he also did a launcher for Deus Ex - a little application that runs before the actual game and lets you manage things.

Get it here: http://www.kentie.net/article/dxguide/

Extract the Zip file into your Deus Ex/System folder and overwrite the DeusEx.exe

Step 4: DX10 renderer from http://www.kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/

Unzip the files for the game you're playing to that game's 'system' directory. Examples of this are 'C:\Deus Ex\System' and 'D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Deus Ex\System'. You should end up with a 'd3d10drv.dll' file in said System directory, and a 'd3d10drv' subdirectory with various other files.

Start the game and enter the following settings into the configurator:

In-game, press “t”, remove “say”, type “preferences” and make the following changes:

Enjoy!

Here's some feedback for you:

1. Link to the fan patch deusexv2 is dead (Google Code is no more). YOu might wnat to go with this link instead: http://www.moddb.com/games/deus-ex/downloads/deus-ex-unofficial-patch-v2
2. I don't think that your screenshots are too helpful as the changes are not highlighted at all.
3. The current version of Kentie's launcher requires Visual Studio 2015 runtimes to work. People forget to install those very often, so you should include a note or link to them.
I thinks is can be dumb this question, but i wanna ask
Is possible to play Deus Ex Revision through Deus EX GOTY Edition? Like I executable GOTY running the new graphics, etcs.

Is because the translation for my leagangue just work on GOTY Edition.
Thanks for the guide, it is exactly what I was looking for.
Just one question, is there a specific reason to use the resolution of 1280x768 instead of 1920x1080, for example? Also, try www.imgur.com for hosting pictures, better performance and way less annoying commercials.

You should create a new thread for that question.

Glad it was helpful for you and thanks for the feedback.

I've edited the post with new configs that make a lot more sense, as well as some tweaks to make it feel even truer to the original experience, such as 1024x768 4:3 resolution and lack of anti-aliasing. Turning anti-aliasing off also seems to have prevented crashes or hangs happening in Hong Kong when I had it turned on... not sure if that was the cause though.
