Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition

Any required mods?
Just bought this for £1 and never played it before! Are there any required mods?

You'll probably want to install Kentie's Launcher. It does some things to make the game run smoother on modern systems. You most likely *can* play the game without it, but you'll probably run into a lot of graphical/lighting issues. This guide should help walk you through it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1545954786 . There are also a few mods like GMDX and Revision that alter/rebalance the game. Most fans recommend playing the vanilla game first, and then playing one of those afterwards. I personally don't think you would ruin your experience if you decided to play GMDX first, but that is up to your personal preference. I would stay away from Revision until your first playthough though, as that mod significantly modifies the game map. Hope that helps! :)
People will tell you GMDX or Revision, but I personally only use dx 10 render for the best vanilla experience. The only other thing id do is just make sure it uses high refresh rate, and up the fps cap.

The game will run fine without any mods, but there are various fixes and suggestions.
I think there might be a patch or two as well, but not necessarily ones you'd need.

This is a good place to start:

The game works at 144hz pretty fine and dandy with vanilla
I'd recommend against Revision, it seems to mostly just clutter up the environment with objects.

Tried it as far as halfway through Liberty Island, not my thing. Listened to the Revisioned Soundtrack on YT, better than the actual mod itself IMO but I might need to give it a fair try.
I did the training area and found my frame rate tanked when I got to the water part. Do some of the linked articles have fixes for that?
I recommend starting off with the DX10 renderer and New Vision textures because they make the game look better without changing the gameplay. Revision makes the maps bigger, but also more chaotic, and GDMX re-balances the gameplay.

Ummm ok, so everyone here is suggesting new vision, dx10 and all the bells and whistles... But if you just want the game to run... I'll just put this here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1197930566

Would have never thought a guide was required for this, I install DX on any computer I'm sitting at for more than a couple hours and never had it fail to run.

EDIT: Although, until I bought this Steam copy it's always been an "augmented" image I've had since around 2002 so I can't speak for this version.

Any chance someone can show some comparisons of what Revision adds to the environment? I did an install of GMDX and I swear I didn't choose Revision... but I seem to have some environmental changes.

Well... GMDX does change the environment... but just to be sure, in Revision at the start of the game just as you go up the ramp to leave the docks, directly to your left will be some benches and a terrorist sitting there... iirc

@topic:

I can highly redommend "Deus Ex: Revision". It's mostly the GOTY, but with several enhancements already included, for better experience on nowadays computers.

It's for free, but you need GOTY to run it.

Have fun mate, this is still an awesome game! :-)
