Strategy for nightmare?
Anyone have suggesions for which item to choose for a nightmare run? Is speed best to start? I tried the sword that adds 4 to attack, but I got crushed. The diversity ring is not bad, but not quite enough.

I haven't beaten nightmare yet, and some of the path forward seems highly luck based which can be frustrating.

That being said, I've been starting policeman's gloves first because as long as you find ONE more coffee bean then you beat all the monsters for the first 3 floors in one hit. Hope that helps and good luck!

Wow. Those gloves are awesome. For some reason, I never really noticed them before. I raced through everything until I ran into a couple overly lucky goats :steamfacepalm:

Thanks for the tip!
Yeah by taking the gloves I can pretty consistently and easily get to the Dusty Vault with almost no trouble (the first time you see pigs/goats).

I'm still learning the game but by the time you get there it seems pretty RNG-reliant if you're going to do well or not, so just cross your fingers for some good drops and high attack!
I was ONE HIT from killing the final boss and he one-shot me for 12 hp, killing me! I cannot contain my rage!

Very true. I had a run yesterday where every potion on the buzzard level hurt me :steamsad:
Hey ! tried the gloves a lot today. So yeah, it's nice to reach the dusty vault, 8 out 10 times, but I'm still constantly dying to goats and I feel there is just nothing I can do about it. Just to restart until everything is perfect.
Yep the dusty vault definitely represents a sort of RNG imbalance in my opinion. There aren't really enough tools in the game available to overcome a crappy build by the time you get there. Or i guess the only "balance" is the fact that runs are pretty darn short, win OR lose, haha
I'd been taking the gloves for a while, and always had a strong start, and then got pretty overwhelmed in the middle. After reating another post about luck, I tried the +5 luck orb, but that made the first few levels way too touchy, and instead switch to the Airman Scarf (3 luck / 2 speed), and then it only takes a tiny bit to get to one-shotting the first levels, but your'e not so far behind on luck. Those runs went well, 2nd run I got farther than I ever had, one floor from the buzzard. On my 3rd Scarf Run I luckily got to positive luck within 2 floors, and the loot started flowing in like it wasn't even nightmare mode ;), and then I finally beat the buzzard on nightmare, yay!

I'm generally with Jimbly that luck is more important than attack, and the orb is a bit too weak. However unlike him I've had over 400 restarts. Only one of which I've gotten to the crystal caverns (one floor from the buzzard as well). In which here's my strategy with the scarf, done in if statement format (condition, true condition, false condition)
If(is there a chest on the first floor, continue, restart)
IF(Did you receive the hedgehog, wedding ring, or stocks?, RESTART, continue)
IF(Did you get an attack boosting artifact?, continue, RESTART)
IF(Is your attack 8 or higher?, continue, RESTART)
IF(Did you get anything to boost luck before floor 5?, continue, RESTART)
IF(Did you get anything to boost attack enough to one shot the crabs?, Skip following line, continue to following line)
IF(Did you get any armor to reduce crabs/frogs dmg to 1?, continue, RESTART)
IF(Do you have any dmg booster, or healing relic when you get to the vault?, continue, RESTART)
After that its mostly playing on ear in my opinion. I haven't gotten my logic down pat after that particular point.
