i dont get why everybody attacks bethesda, but when it comes to valve everybody is silent
they both do the same thing, they want earn money through mods
even dota 2 has paid mods...
goldsource engine doesnt use HAVOK, no fee needed to pay for commercial use
Because gaming media likes to operate off fear mongering and stirring drama.
I dunno what's your point, this is a mod and it's free. Thus devs don't even need a license from Valve even when using Valve's IP (which this mod is definitelly using) - fair use.
Plus there is a difference between consmetic community-driven and developer checked microtransactions (Valve style) and overpriced 3rd party DLC fest (Bethesda style). Both are paid mods, but Valve uses it in more elegant way which benefits everyone. Bethesda gets their fair share of hate for all the right reasons.
This mod runs on GoldSrc, the original engine built by Valve.
It is not Source of any kind, it is not "Source without Havok".
Valve released an SDK (FREE) for GoldSrc called "Half-Life SDK" that gives you all the tools you need to make a game using the half-life branch of GoldSrc. Because they don't give their GoldSrc source code out, it *requires* Half-Life to run.
Simply put, this is only a mod made with Half-Life SDK, which is free, and requires no payment to Valve of any kind unless you want to *sell* it, but Valve no longer licenses GoldSrc so it's impossible if you even wanted to.
The creator of this mod may have had to pay the $100 fee for Steam Direct though, but that's it.
He uploaded a HL mod, added cosmetic DLC because he can't legally sell it.
They had two folders: goldsrc and src. goldsrc is what they didn't modify and shipped Half-Life with. src was a newer version of the engine, but not properly tested.
After the release of Half-Life they ported it on newer version in src folder, I don't remember when they released the newer version. Counter Strike 1.5 was ported on src and which they called Source engine and it became Counter Strike 1.6.
