Proton doesn't work
Epic game store version, using Heroic launcher, not a single version of proton or proton GE works correctly. Gmae is unplayable

I think I tried one wine branch, i'll try another tonight. TTried all the proton and Proton GEs which work for everything else I own, including tiny tinas wonderlands

I'm running HGL flatpak on my Steam Deck (launching HGL through Steam in game mode) and the game runs great, tried proton 7 and experimental.

You ought to be able to play if the game is set to DX9 instead of DX11 in the settings. If you cannot reach the settings in-game, you will have to edit Config.xml where the save folder for the game is located, and change:

<int name="System_VideoDriver" value="6" />
to
<int name="System_VideoDriver" value="4" />

We detect if the game is running on Steam Deck and change it to be compatible, however we will need to look into seeing how we can detect if Proton is running specifically so that all uses are covered.

There may be issues with the current Epic release that may also prevent Proton from working correctly that we have addressed for Steam Deck, but those fixes will not arrive until April 28th (for all platforms).

Odd that is exactly what i'm doing and it has a black screen and doesn't show menu UIs and so on.

Hi, yea all wine versions just result in an error as soon as the game launches. It is nice to hear you have made changes though. If I have to wait until the 28th that is fine.

I forgot I messed with the settings earlier - add "PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 PROTON_NO_D3D10=1" without quotes to the environment variables for the game and -force-opengl to the game arguments

That's not surprising. I think there is something incompatible with our DX11 driver & antialiasing, which we will look into for the future. But, I have found a way to detect if a Windows build is running on Wine (Proton) and will dropdown to DX9 automatically like it does on Steam Deck for our release at least.

Cool, thanks!

I see thanks very much.

Update: Yea connected the deck to my dock to add this much more easily and boom working now. I have an issue with HGL no longer operable though, it's lept my docked resolution and made it inoperable, which is annoying. Nevermind, booting into desktop mode and back worked :) thanks for all the help.

I just have to run it in desktop mode, as game mode doesn't render it as a main screen.

I can't seem to get button configs to work right, what did you use? I can not get the camera up and so on in the game with any buttons atm. Just crouching,jumping,moving and looking around works atm

I think something to do with the older version of direct x is screwing the deck's controls up, if you change the Graphics Driver in the display settings to OpenGL explicitly, you can delete the environment variables I listed above, then the controls work fine.

Maybe the devs can force the change to use OpenGL if it sees that Proton is being used?

Yea coudl be that, i've managed to get it workign in a way that's playable with a few rebinds and enabling ignore directinput in the game options.

I just discussed on their discord, sounds like this isn't an issue with the latest version of the game (the one coming out in 2 weeks)
