Defensive upgrade's problem with electromagnetic.
When electromagnetic round is in play, here's the problem.

Defensive upgrades (armor, field repair, damage sharing, mechanical division, final blitz, quantum reassembly)
- not getting hit > not useful
- get hit > not useful

Other upgrades
- not getting hit > useful
- get hit > not useful

So once eletro magnetic shot is up, these upgrades become near completely useless.
So i can only think of these following counters for this problem :
- Make defensive upgrades immune to electro magnetic shot's effect
- Make defensive upgrades only lose a small fraction of their effect if get hit by electro magnetic shot.
- I can get a full refund from these upgrades once they become totally useless
- Delete them from the game and save everybody's time

( I think shield upgrade is already immune to electromagnetic round, and it is quite good)

None of your suggestions are counters, they are fantasies.

The real counters are chaff, shields and photon emission. Emphasis on photon emission.

If i have chaff and shield, why do i need armor upgrade? Photon only takes effect at the beginning of the round where firepower is the strongest.

It all depends on the situation. Generally it's best against heavy investments of fangs/mustangs and crawlers when the opponent doesn't already have electro mag shot.

If the opponent has got electromag shot then you gotta get a bit more creative with positioning and you probably want photon emission as well. The armor upgrade isn't supposed to be a win game button, it can be a sucker punch and later on it's usage varies.

Yes, and it also gives +30 percent health. It's very helpful.

I don't dispute the usefulness of photon emission, but when the photon buff wear off, they are completely useless against electro magnetic shot, perhaps a longer buff time for photon emission could help too, but i think not, that would make electro magnetic shot become useless, so there must be a compromise.

Relying on your opponent not hitting you with electromagnetic shot is a bad strategy.

If you're playing games where your opponent has EMP on every unit, then your opponent is already crippling his own choices. And if not, then your upgrades aren't "totally useless".

You've been given a great list of soft counters, but you're asking for a hard counter, which the game doesn't need.

You get a %hp increase flat with each defensive upgrade that your electromagnetic shot cannot take away. That helps weather the damage until you remove the problem rubbing your units the wrong way. At which point, the rest of the upgrade kicks back in. Focus less on how unfair it is to get shot and more on removing the shooter.

Well, if the hp upgrade is not gone if hit by emp, then it's good.
Polar Test 53 Jul 15, 2024 @ 3:08pm
people get emp tech in response to something not prematurely.

and if you have a high level units with 50% bonus hp thats a free chunk of hp gone from a single shot. honestly buffing the armour may have been an overall nerf since it will now be considered a tech worth EMP'ing.
unless they change it so you dont lose the extra hp and only lose the armour. in which case im sure armour tech would be getting nerfed in that same patch.

so yeah play smart dont over invest into a single unit type without a proper plan on countering emp. cause it will be coming if you stack 3-4 techs on a unit or get one of the techs people will always get emp to deal with.

at least to my knowledge it takes away the extra hp. i remember it doing so to assault marks at least.

They already have the code in place to exempt techs from getting emped that doesn't make much logical sense like extra armor because the experimental tech exist that drains the unit's hp. If they wanted to go in that direction, they very well could.

If you say the tech is not worth EMPing, it is probably also not worth buying, so it clearly need a buff.

There's a lot of tech that provides a bonus despite EMP. Armor, photon emissions, shields, unit spawning, afterburners... I'm sure there's more, but that's off the top of my head.
Other tech can help you avoid EMP, such as increased range keeping you behind your chaff.

Photon Coating, it already exists. Overlord and Sabertooth has it in AOE version while a personal version exists for the Rhino and Warfactory.

Why? Unlike the defensive upgrades that get benefit from being shot against everything else other than EMP, EMP is only ever useful against targets with tech that don't already die in a single hit while still costing the 300 supply + 200 in taxes.

"Wah, my oponent countered me in one spot so I want a full refund so I can spend every supply to exactly counter what they have"

Just equip different techs then. You don't have to use them, and you can find different combos that would work for you.

Shield is "immune" because the shot hits the shield, not the unit. This is why Photon Coating is also immune to EMP, because it's a coating around the unit that prevents the EMP shot from hitting it.

Mech Rage on Fangs and Sledges aren't worth EMPing, but they are extremely worth getting. Range similarly is always worth getting for pretty much every unit, but it's not worth trying to counter Range with EMP.
