PS: This game is great. I personally have no more crashes since the last update. So I can tell that it is better to play now.
If I run Winamp (music player) portia will crash, too.
Thank you for the advice. I did those things you have suggested before, and have tried them again since you brought it up, but no luck (I hunted for things to turn off but im pretty sure I've stripped her processes to the minimum at this point. She doesn't use her PC for anything except for several games right now).
The game still crashes very frequently, particularly with wifi turned on, which makes no sense to me. The difference between stability with just that one change is like the difference between night and day.
Do you mean to ask is she low on HD space? No, she is not. Also she only has 4 games installed at this time.
Repix, I feel the same but didn't mention it earlier because I didn't find it constructive, my girlfriend really likes this game and it's painful for me to watch her hate/love relationship amidst the crashes.
Update, maybe a clue: Years ago, on another machine, a firefox browser update was creating memory leaks and giving my computer blue screens. I remember pulling out one of the RAM sticks as a temporary workaround which fixed it until they found the bug and fixed it. I tried this today with my girlfriend's computer and it crashes just as randomly. But now, instead of unexplained crash to desktops or access violation error messages, when Portia crashes on her it gives an in-game crash report dialogue. I don't understand enough to explain why removing a memory stick would make this change (after a few dozen crashes we never saw this in-game error report dialogue before). Maybe the devs can find insight into the error with this? No idea.
So, this can be causing a conflict. I'm using a laptop and I was experience crashes before as well, but lately my game have not suffer any crashes. As you mentioned your problem with the firefox, even tho that happens years ago can still causing problem now years later.
Anyway you should try to send a report directly to the developers to see if they can help with this problem.
I am sorry, I am not of much help. I hope your girlfriend can play this game soon, I understand this kind of frustration.
