[SOLVED] I really want to play this game but I can't.
Bought this game because I saw it on nerd cubed. Looks like a fun game but I can't play it, it crashes at start with an unreal engine error.. Updated my drivers but it didn't fix the issue. I don't want to return this game but I'm running out of time.

We just released Update #3. It includes some bug fixes that might help you.

I also have this issue, even after updating to #3, however the game runs fine when I launch it through the exe rather than through steam. I'm running the game on a Windows 10 PC with a GTX 1080 and an Intel Core i7-6700CPU @ 3.40GHz. Hope this helps.

Applied the update, now I crash with unreal error at the main menu.

Tried running .EXE directly with steam closed and it still crashes at the main menu. I get windows message that the video driver crashed, then the unreal error. All other games run fine. Also tried to run as administrator with same results.

I just kept hitting play just to see if it would eventually work, even though I didn't expect it to. I got to the main menu on the fourth try, then crashed when selecting a level. I actually managed to start a level on the fifth try, but then it crashed after completing two levels. The game is definitely at least playable in its current state, but I could definitely do without the high risk of crashing.

Thanks for this bug report. It certainly confirms my beliefs that this bug is caused by GPU memory management. With 2 GB graphics cards, the driver needs to swap resources between CPU<->GPU memory, and this takes time, especially on older motherboards/CPUs that only have PCI-E 2.0 bus. We have one big 1 GB volume texture that contains the world data. If the driver places this texture to system memory, the GPU will time out during world generation. Windows has 2 second timer for GPU tasks and kills the driver if the timeout is met.

I just managed to acquire an old Intel Nehalem i7 CPU + old motherboard to do some testing with 2 GB GPUs. This will speed up my bug hunt dramatically. I will inform when I found some solution for this issue.

I just kept hitting play just to see if it would eventually work, even though I didn't expect it to. I got to the main menu on the fourth try, then crashed when selecting a level. I actually managed to start a level on the fifth try, but then it crashed after completing two levels. The game is definitely at least playable in its current state, but I could definitely do without the high risk of crashing.

mine was the same altho ive not managed to start a level yet. hope its fixed soon tho

Here is what I did which worked for me, but it only applies to Nvidia gpus.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Ansel\Tools

Run NvCameraConfiguration.exe

At the buttom of the window set the NVcamera status to "disabled" then hit Save.
See if that works.

I had given up and haven't been back to this thread until today. I got it working. Here's how.
I upgraded to Windows 10.
When I started the game I got a security warning that asked me if I wanted to give the program access to my hard drive, I said yes (did not get security warning on windows 7) .
The game started up fine no issues and runs just fine, looks great,
Not sure if this will help but the problem wasn't my hardware as that is the same, I think it may be a security problem with windows 7.

I appear to be getting the security warning every time I start the game. I don't get this warning with any other game I have on steam.
