I'm frustrated I wasn't aware I would have to pay for every single update of this game, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I have never seen so many DLC in my entire life! It's a shame because the game had a lot of potential too, yet greed got in the way. I feel ripped off I bought a game I can't play to its fullest. On the other hand it helped me to be a lot more careful before I decide to buy a game on Steam in the future. Lesson learned.

You don't need to buy every DLC. You can still join most maps if other people host. DLC is to expand the game after you have done everything and still want more.

You do not need to have them to play, they are extras and with some of them only one person needs to have it for everyone to play the map. also all the holiday ones go free during the respective holiday , so if you wait you can get a few free.

You 2 convinced me to give the game another try. What about the locked characters? Don't I need to buy them?
KittenCanaveral Feb 22, 2013 @ 2:11pm
yeah but those guys are optional, I got most of mine 75% off and a few I got free, the Valentine ones might still be free I havent checked.

You don't have to buy them, they make things easier in the hardest difficulty but if you play normal you are good with the heroes from the base game. If you play with others online you can find out what the dlc heroes are and if you want to play them yourself.

You purchased the game as-is - susequant updates are not what you purchased and the developer withholds the right to, within reason, update the game as they see fit, this includes, but is not limited to, the release of seperate DLC, of which may initially be made available for free; this is true, in most cases, with games as well as regular software.

The world does not come to your every beck and call.

"I feel ripped off I bought a game I can't play to its fullest." - This is false. The game, in its original (without DLC) state, was in its "full", and even with the release of new DLC, the game, in its original state, of which you paid and signed for, in a manner of speaking, is still "full", with the DLC merely being optional addons to the game. You are not owed extra software by Trendy, just because you purchased their original release; by that logic, one could buy Farcry 3, and assume rights to the 4th one too.

Maybe have a think. If you don't like the game anymore, that's fair enough and rightfully your opinion, but complaining that Trendy have the initiative and right to make more addons for the game (which some of us, by the way, actually appreciate and enjoy, albeit perhaps not all their DLC) is just... wrong, dude.

I can appreciate the pressure to purchase these various addons, though. I can also appreciate the frustration and having to say "I don't have that DLC." in-game. Perhaps an alternative method would work for us better, but as it is, it does work, and give the guys credit, it may be a buggy game, and we may get a sence of abandonment but they did a good job, and the majority of us seem to love Dungeon Defenders.

If you don't like how most of video game industries work these days, then you may wish to do some research and pick games from developers that state they will not release any DLC or subsequent patches, updates, addons, or anything akin to these. In essence, you need a game company that will love you, then leave you - if only FOX were a game developer...

Good luck.

Funny thing is Trendy said back last year that Nightmare mode is going to be "free" when they released all the 4 Shards map, but apparently they thought it'd be cool to charge for a higher "difficulty" level, just saying...Also there's no point in playing DD if you don't have Nightmare difficulty, you'll get♥♥♥♥♥♥bored in like a week after playing on Insane...
Also at least 60% of the DLCs were free so just wait till the events to come up and probably you can nab them for free...But yea there's a heap ton of DLCs for this game...
Only DLCs worth getting is the QTELS(for Nightmare mode and high end loot), Summoner, Series EV. Rest all don't bother...but if of course there is a sale like 75% off throughout, just get'm it'll cost you like 5-10 bucks at the most...

Yeah, firstly I never intended to give out the impression that I thought the game was bad because of the ridifuclous ammount of DLC. Like I said before, the game has a lot of potential, it is fun to play! And secondly, my opinion still stands. Greed got in the way big time, 12€ for 20% of the game is a rip off. If only I could go back in time...

So summing it up, I quite honestly don't think the entire game (including all DLC) is worth the price they're asking, I'd be happy to pay 20 to 30 € for it but never 50. For people who would be interested in getting the game in the future, I'd suggest you wait for a 75% discount for the whole pack, that would seem much more like a reasonable price. The game isn't bad, it is fun and that's what you'd expect from a "time waster" type of game. The only down side to it is the fact that it is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced. With 50€ you could get yourself something that's actually worth the 50€.
