All across the game you can seea shiny object in the sea. What is that? I have an idea since I finished the game, but curious to hear your opinions.

It's the shell. Likely being held by the mermaid the crew released in exchange to safely see the Obra Dinn back to England (which is why you can still see it).

I still find it funny thinking that based on the bargain the mermaid(s) (and assorted sea creatures? Perhaps the kraken?) probably pushed the Obra Dinn all the way back to Britain. I mean, without a crew a sailing ship is going nowhere fast.

@Lim-Dul It's shown that the sea beasts have power over weather, as shown by the storm that appears before every event concerning them. It's far more likely that they used the wind and waves to get the ship back home.

I had to chuckle at the image. Imagine the conversation "okay boy we got the shell back now you go push the boat back to England alright?" *sadkraken

Tyrannis Umbra, that's true but by the looks of it the rigging and sails are pretty wrecked, so waves maybe but not wind.

Juice Weasel I also like the idea - today's return of the Obra Dinn to Falmouth was brought to you by KrakenPower (tm)! Please remember anything you brought back from the Canary Islands is not duty free... 😆

I like to think that it's just the one mermaid pushing the whole damn boat back to Britain. I mean it did take the ship like 5 years to get back to port, if the krakan and other sea creatures helped it'd probably have gotten back faster, just a bit of humor in a somewhat bleak game.

Someone in another thread said that a sailing ship of this size would have required hundreds of ropes and lines in various places that are not modeled in the game, and so it wouldn't have been sea-worthy in the first place. It's quite possible that the ship was kraken-powered all along, and the fake rigging was just for show!

I remember seeing one of the mermaids with the shell and freaking out that the cursed shell was literally 50 yards away in the water
