Tear a Bear Feb 17, 2019 @ 3:32pm
Just got my goat, then he died within minutes.
Like the title says, I had just captured a goat, made sure there were 6 grass plots for him and his llama buddy. Have walls all around the pen to make sure they only stayed on the grass. Next thing, I hear a sound and check and see my goat is keeled over dead. Didn't even have him 5 minutes!
Also, captured a goat on a previous play, when I logged back in he was no longer there.

tl;dr as discussed in the linked thread
The animals currently don't actively seek food and wander aimlessly, meaning they will starve to death if they don't randomly wander over the grass to eat. Fence off your grass so they can only wander in those areas and extend the pen as you get more grass plots.

I put a fence around some crops. You have to constantly water the crops so they have food to eat. Make sure that the whole floor inside the fences is covered crops, you can also place crops on the outside of the fence, they can reach there too. I'm not sure if this is necessary but I pick up my animals and drop them to make the game register that I am interacting with the animals & I (and game) knows that the animals are there. My animals have been living for 40 days now. I only have an issue of them disappearing, which only happened once. I highly recommend putting the animals on the second level because interference with the waves may cause inability to interactive with animals.

I've had now 2 goats and 2 llamas. The llamas died before the end of the first day as well as 1 goat. Some how I managed to get 1 goat to survive almost 3 days. I have no idea how it lasted that long.....

I really hope something changes so we have a slightly easier time keeping them alive. This is ridiculous. How am i supposed to farm wool if the stupid thing wont last long enough to give me more then 1 piece. I have come across 3 large islands. 2 of them only had 3 goats and a single boar. I have yet to see cluckers.
