Well, the game is trying to tell you that by placing it there, you would be blocking access to another building. However... looking at your screenshot, this is not occurring. Strange.

Game rules. You can make only two close lines of houses in 1 direction. May be it make game more difficult.

Agree it dont block the access however the game routines clearly seem to think it does, they clearly need tuning

what he said, you can make double rows but not triple, one space in between

Ah ok, would be nice if the message then is clearer.

And here I can't place the market next to houses:

Re: market - Buildings aside from houses and walls, and garrison towers have a 1-space requirement.

As for the ones you can cluster together, they generally have a 2-width limit. Though making an L-shaped layout doesn't seem to be allowed either... something in the code doesn't like it.

It is clear from the red colouring of the placement square...what is the problem?

Buildings need a space between them...it actually helps you in the long run as trying to move an army quickly from one point to another from one and of map to another is a nightmare if you block paths.

i've found it comes if you build a few houses then come back to build more like the door has been swung round to block the next house u want to place try deleting the one before and placing both at the same time. that tends to fix what seem to be going wrong on ur sreenshot but i might be wrong
I managed to figure out the exact rules that They Are Billions uses to determine free access. Two conditions must be met: (1) an existing building can't have more than 3 direct (non-diagonal) neighbors and (2) an existing building can't have more than 5 surrounding (any kind including diagonal) neighbors. I go into more detail on those rules here: http://www.aboutfact.com/they-are-billions-blocking-access

Why can't I place this tent there?

This building is blocked because the building due east of the red squares would violate rule (2). The building due east would have more than 5 surrounding neighbors.

Well.. how should the people leave the tents in the middle if you build it like 3x8 or something

I think the access rules get a bit buggy when houses are offset like that. In your screenshot, based on the rules here

That should not be treated as "blocked" but it is.

I've had that myself. When the houses are offset like in your screenshot, the build rules get a bit funny and start to claim building spots invalid that should be valid.

I think you're right that the rules seem buggy. In the screenshot by ParaDox that you quote, it's rule (1) that takes effect. The tent directly to the west of the red squares would have access blocked (according to the rules; not according to common sense). This tent already has 3 direct neighbors. Building is prevented because it would gain 4 direct neighbors, which contradicts rule (1).
