I fought lots of the easy battles and don't see any experience gain.I even fought 1 rbeanked battle and won against someone who had twice my hp. How do you get to higher levels where you increase your maxinum hp?

You dont gain exp to lvl up - You must buy lvls for gold...

Nice, but I think its better to focus on 1 champion firtst - buy all items You need to complete whole build and start to earn gold. Then second champ and so on...
