Can't pass loading screen
I'd love to play the game but my problem is as followed: on most attempts the first loading screen doesn't end. once I came through, I had to switch to the offline mode otherwise even the loading time between the levels were very long. I hope someone has a solution for this. Thanks in advance.

Hi I am sorry that you run into these problems, maybe I can find a solution for you.

a) After you switched to offline mode everything worked fine?
b) How fast is your internet connection
c) Do you have ghosts turned on, if so try turning them off and see if the loading between the levels decreases (it should even if you are online)
d) You can just try the online mode again I rebooted the VM that is hosting the Data maybe it was somehow slower than usual.

I will try to log in today evening and see if I can reproduce the problem. If none of the above help please write again, we should be able to find a solution.

Thanks for the fast reply. Now about all your points.
a. After switched to the offline mode I beat about 2,5 Worlds then the game closed all of a sudden. After that I couldn't pass through the first loading screen again. Also tried again after reading your reply no success :(
b. According to an online internet speed test my download speed is around 170 Mbit/sec and my ping to Frankfurt is around 20 ms.
c. Nope didn't used that feature once so far.

It looks to me you might have a different problem now. Can you try renaming this folder: C:\Users\{your user name here}\AppData\LocalLow\PartTimeIndie\Will Glow the Wisp. This is where your local state is stored, if you where not in online mode and your state is corrupt, you will start from the beginning after doing that. If it works you can send me the data and I can see if I can repair it for you.

Btw, I started the game today and on first login the loading was pretty slow. I will change servers soon I hope this will make this problem go away. If not I will investiage more.

I renamed the folder "Will Glow the Wisp into Will Glow the Wispx" in according to the directory C:\Users\{your user name here}\AppData\LocalLow\PartTimeIndie\Will Glow the Wisp. Still after 5 minutes I still could not get pass the first loading screen. I will try over the next days again to see if your restarting of the server solves this problem. thanks again for help so far.

Hmm can you check if the folder was recreated (and you can probably rename it back). I never had waits for that long (5 Minutes). I am unsure what it could be. If you go offline the game will aways start in offline mode btw, but if you switched to offline mode the game would have remembered that setting. On friday evening I will be able to take a look in the code again and will let you know.

I can now see another file with the original name "Will Glow the Wisp" after the renaming and the start of the game.

Sorry it took a little longer, but I had some stuff going on yesterday. I just released an update which includes a faster loading time if for some reason the server is unvailable.

What this means for you:
1. If you did not do it rename the original folder back to Will Glow the Wisp and delete the newly created one (this means you get your savegames back)
2. Try to start the game (it should startup in under 2 minutes [at least it did in my testing when I disabled the internet])
3. If for some reason the game does still not work afer these changes, please take a look into the Will Glow the Wisp folder, if any errors occured there should be a folder named "Exception" and inside there should be files which you can send me. This way I can analyze what is going on. This is another feature I added.

I hope everything works out now :)

Thanks for the effort so far. Unfortunately I can't still get pass the loading screen after about 4 minutes. I even reinstalled the game to make sure I get the game up to date. I looked through the whole folder without any date named "Exception". Is there way to switch the whole game to offline before the first loading screen ?

Okay so I did another update (I wanted to solve the problem for all people). If this update doesn't work I am also going to include the way to disable online mode via Registry, but I do not think it will be needed after this update.

The current update will log you in regardless of what happens after 90 seconds (this is a fallback if anything breaks I can't understand). At this point you will be automatically in offline mode.

I also set the timeout for each call to my backend to 25 seconds, which means that you should be logged in even before 90 seconds (in around 75 seconds).

If for some reason this does not work, you can first take a look at the exception folder again (in C:\Users\{your user name here}\AppData\LocalLow\PartTimeIndie\Will Glow the Wisp if you forgot from last time)

if that is empty wou will need to modify the registry (you need to open regedit)

Under Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PartTimeIndie\Will Glow the Wisp you will find the key TransmitData you should change it to 0 to stop sending data. This is the same thing that happens if you go to offline mode from the options (there was a bug before which might have switched you to online again :/ )

I hope everything works out without going through the Registry.

Sorry for the inconvenience

P.s.: If you get into the game you can reduce the loading times in the future when you change the option (offline mode or whatever it is called) inside the options menue. As I said there was a bug before that might have caused that it was not saved correctly.

I received the update. Unfortunately I can't still get pass the first loading screen. I have tried several times over a few days for about 5 mins each.

Hmm crap did you try to set the offline mode? Maybe that isn't even the issue

And can you check the exception folder again. If you find nothing at none of these places, I am not sure if I will be able to help you and I suggest you take a refund :(

@Flo

Someone else ran into the same problem and he was able to fix the problem by deleting all registry entries (should be this HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PartTimeIndie). Hope this will help you as well

Hi. I’ve just got the game for free, and it won’t start at all. When I click the “▶ Play” button in Steam, it changes to “× Stop”, but I don’t even see a loading screen, and I don’t see a process for the game in the Task manager either (Windows 10 1909). The only thing I can do then is quit Steam and wait for it to force-quit the game.

It seems that I’ve not reached the point where the game has been able to create the files in AppData and the registry keys mentioned, because I see nothing there
