Counter/defend against a breathe weapon?
Is there a spell and/or attribute that you can use to defend against or try and evade a breath weapon?

Just encountered the crag linnorm and its breath weapon is eating my lunch even after buffing up.

Try Resist Energy and Protection From Elements against fire. You can also use Heroism and Heroism, Greater to increase your chances of succeeding the saving throw (for half damage).

As Skinofice said, resist and protection vs fire helps. What also helps alot is spreading out.
Send your main tank front, and your two other melee guys to the sides.
Keep your ranged characters in skirmish style, meaning don't leave a straigth line to them from one of your melee chars.

Like said above they are useful, but I also love to add haste into the mix and not worry about heroism. As it stands haste is my favorite spell. But you have to remember to bring a cold iron weapon or you can never kill the crag linnorm, use your usual weapons to knock it down then have one character swap to a cold iron weapon to "finish it off" even if it is just the dagger you pick up early.

Thanks to both of you.

That's basically what I did. Buffed up Valerie, had the cleric within heal range to one side, Linzi in the back, Jubilost opposite Tristian, and then Amiri plus my rogue main char off on the far left flank to attack from basically the side/back.

Problem was the breath weapon basically obliterated Valerie.

Other question is, what level is this encounter for? While all the yard trash in the zone outside was easy, this guy seems to give me the idea that I may need to come back at a higher level.

I was able to defeat him at around level, hmm, 10? I believe it was 1 or 2 levels below 10 on normal difficulty (not "Normal difficulty" just normal enemies, criticals, etc, so slightly above "Normal difficulty"). I used a similar strategy of spreading my party out and using Protection from Elements because my MC is a sorcerer, and I became immune to fire.

Just don't forget to bring a cold iron weapon, I had to kill him twice, wasn't that hard, because I didn't bring one.
