Guide: Uninstall Battletech Cleanly [Often fixes issues]
This guide will help you to uninstall BattleTech cleanly if you have issues or have mods which have not uninstalled properly or have broken since v1.1. This method has been known to fix issues even if you've not modded (but have had issues since v1.1.).

One does not simply Right Click > Uninstall BattleTech.

Always try cleanly uninstalling and reinstalling if you are having technical issues, especially if you started with an early/beta version of BattleTech.

Please note that is has become the case that some registery entries need removing as part of the clean uninstall process. This should be done after the process described in the video above but before you re-install the game:

Here is a video for making the regedit changes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8504otPbO5U

Some Extra Notes:

> You may also find data in the following location on windows 10:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\

> Another way of getting into AppData in Windows Explorer is to click on View up the top, and tick the box "view hidden items".

> This is the exact regedit location if you can't clearly see it in the video:
Navigate to 'Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH'. Now delete the 'CachedSettings_h2706256392’ key

Note this is potentially dangerous, ask for help if you are not confident in this and/or follow the video guide every carefully!

> Here are equivalent file system locations for GoG users:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\USER_ID\637090\
is
C:/Users/USER_ID/AppData/Local/GOG.com/Galaxy/Applications/50593543263669699/

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\
is
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\BATTLETECH\

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\ is the same for Steam and GoG versions.

Special thanks to AndrewT and MrBigT for his support in adding these extra details.

Thanks for this post.
I hope we can get one day an update here which declares that this emergency solution will be fixed and unlikely to be needed anymore even this can still take a very, very long time. Thanks.

Still have to remove everything manually if you want to play after a patch. Not impressed at all.

Game would not start after update - hung at logo screen. Have to uninstall and completely re-download now :-(

Sorry to hear you guys are having trouble :(. Let me know here if you are still having issues playing the game after a clean reinstall. This shouldn't be necessary if you've never modded, but it does help some people on some systems.

So I'm pretty good with computers and I tried both of your methods but I couldn't find the save folder you were talking about since there isn't a folder with that number on it in there. I've got the same problem as iamevil1974.

just bought this and installed for the first time.
game hangs on splashscreen and fails to load.
24 hours and counting for a proper fix (i have zero interest in regeditting to fix what should work straight up)

You shouldn't have any issues if this is the case. I am aware the game hangs on load for new clients sometimes for some configurations.

Try waiting 2-4 minutes for the game to load for the first time.

Also, what is your spec?

There should be, is this the first time you've installed? It won't exist if the game has never been played before, but that said, you shouldn't need to clean uninstall in that case.

No, try a full restart of your system and load BattleTech from there. Does that fix it?

Otherwise you may have to raise a support ticket. They are dealt with very quickly though, so hopefully we can get you running pretty rapidly.

Guys I thank you for taking the time to post directions on how to clean up my system but I am not going to play with my registry. I will simply cease playing this game and refrain from ever buying a game from this company again.

The game has been played alot (I was playing it with some glitches happening right before I uninstalled the first time) so I'm sure there is a save file somewhere, but I searched for the folder number in your video in there and it wasn't there...
Never mind all that, after letting it hang on the splash screen for about 10 mins it finally loaded the intro video. I had a Dev message me in a different forum post about this and the hanging on the splash screen is a known problem that they are working on patching, sorry for bothering you, and thanks for all the help :D

So let me get this straight, I have to do a clean uninstall and fix registry issues due to my mistakes of PURCHASING your new DLC? I don't think so, this is what the return option is for when it comes to Steam games. Good luck with your obviouisly extensive programming problems, but don't expect me to finance them. Let me know when you release a FINISHED WORKING product.
