Anyone know what the Palerunner achievement is?
I love achievement hunting so I'm ready for hardmode! But this is a secret achievement I can't find any info on, anyone know how to get this please?

I just discovered a new method and got the achievement an hour ago. (Not sure if it is reproducible though.)

Here is how:

  1. go to the doomed commercial area from the bookshop/gym side.
  2. enter the dark area with the flashlight equipped (inaccessible otherwise), you will find a bird specimens right after you entered the first room.
  3. park your character at the righthand side of the bird specimen.
  4. unequip flashlight
  5. quick save and quick load
  6. click/interact with Kim and you will be teleported back to the entrance and receive the achievement.

You can also check this video I made:

Let me know if this method works for you. I hope it is helpful.:claptrap:

So maybe its an early to middle game achievment?

the guy told me he doesnt remember how he got it since he was playing other games while playing disco aswell. and he also noted that he was not in hardcore mode when he got it.

he told me he can send the files if anyone wants to check.

edit: he also noted that his current state was that he has to confront titus.
He probably got it using SAM

Having finished the game on hardcore, I can say with reasonable certainty that Palerunner has nothing to do with that mode. I believe it is another easter egg that has been added to the game.

The lead that sounds most promising to me is the change to the dialogue in the Church, where the line about the Pale is added in another variation of the Moralist motto.

Thanks :D

Not achievment related but: this thread is like a meta game.
We are investigating and making conclusions on a subject, using all the leads and proof we have.
Its like a "detective game" about a "detective game"

Ah it's great, isn't it!

"Phase shift" could very well be a literal translation of a Russian colloquialism "сдвиг по фазе" [sdv'ik pa-f'azi] which is used to say that someone's marbles ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off to another town (the Great Dictionary of Russian Proverbs defines it as "Abnormality, strangeness of behaviour; loss of self-control" ).

...Oh, man. What if...

You know how sometimes you space out while talking to your brain while talking to an NPC, and then when you come out of it, you're given an oddly specific amount of time (something-point-something seconds) that's passed? I was pretty sure I'd seen that change between playthroughs, but I wasn't really keeping track of it. Is that it?

anyone tried speedrunning the game, like, finishing it in 5 days or whatever is the fastest way?

I did in my first playthrough (completely forgot about the church quest that time, though), did manage to locate a save and complete the church quest before proceeding to the Ruby sequence, BUT I wondered if Joyce or the Paledriver would have different comments on my findings. The lorrywoman didn't, and Joyce had already left my game.

Really intrigued by this. I didn't buy the book in that playthrough, either. Will try that next.
The way I interpret it (since time doesn't simply advance by 'running around' so to speak) is that you have to spend 1 in-game hour 'dealing with the Pale'. Maybe talking about the pale for that amount of time which would mean using a certain number of lines about the Pale? My stretchiest guess would be spending 1 in-game hour inside dream segments, in which I am not even sure time advances normally, as it doesn't during skill interactions IIRC.

I strongly think this happens mostly because of Shivers (in the church and when first walking outside of the Whirling-In-Rags).

This might be completely off, but does anyone think 'Palerunner' could be a reference to another detective story, 'Blade Runner'? I've been trying to think of how they might be related but can't come up with anything, haha

Also has anyone happened to take a look at that save file from that guy that has the achievement?

Could you ask him to share his save files?

Not sure if this is related, but when you choose hardcore mode in the menu the church lights up. And this is also the place where there is new dialogue about the Pale. So it seems to me maybe it requires a specific set of actions or skill checks in the Church on HC difficulty.

I just got the achievment after loading a save file that was saved duringa loading screen, it glitched me out in a black abyss and i could not move. Then I restarted the game and clicked the same save file and this time there was the door that you go through to get to the dock and the black abyss again, after aproximatley 3 seconds of standing in the black, the game teleported me inside again and i got the achievment. I have no idea if that was a bug im playing on the normal mode idk.

Yes I saw that. The HardCore music is playing too. So are the two achievements connected?
I'm ready for another playthrough but not sure how to proceed. Guess I'll go for a nice run trying to see how pleasant I can get Cuno to be while being as psychic as I can get.

Whoa, what part of the game was this in? Which door exactly? :t500:

Also was it like an autosave that you loaded, or a manual quick save during a loading screen?
