Good ending brainstorming. [SPOILERS]
[BIG EDIT] Developer is a big troll, no good ending. Just fooled us into playing extra hours for extra trending points. Which it's a shame to see, since the game is good on its own w/o the trolling.

Hello, names Brody, and like a lot of you I'd really like to find the secret to the good ending! I'm just creating this thread so that we can come together and post any and all wacky suggestions so that we can finally crack the code.

And if you didn't see from the title, this thread is going to contain HEAVY spoilers.

Things we know don't work:
  • Just beating the game
  • Just beating the game in Nightmare
  • 100% Challenges
  • Completing the merchants
Semi-reasonable next steps?
  • Complete the bosses in a particular order (i.e. Alpha Twins first)
  • 100% Nightmare
  • No Death/No Death Nightmare
  • No Rest
  • No Level Up
  • No Challenges
  • Skip flame-sword
  • ??

As to some actual theory, I think the good ending has something to do with the planet (as many believe) and sleep/nightmares. Perhaps we need to become sleepless like the other immortals to grasp the 'truth' of the planet. Personally I'm at a loss, and I'm not exactly the most skilled person when it comes to games so I'd be hard pressed to tackle any of the no death type runs.

But if any of y'all have done any of the things I've listed, please make a post about it so we can strike it off the list! Happy posting!

Beat alpha twin before Prisoner Zero. That's not it. Alpha Twin's actually easier.

Also, an official hint was given- it pertains to finding out the identity of the outcast. (Which also might be tied to the missing Lore Entry in the Monster Compendium.

So, if the good ending is lore related, I would suggest that maybe it should be achieved on normal mode and not nightmare. I say this because in nightmare mode the Sleepless Outcast says the player has "Missed the Apocalypse," and that "The world was hanging by a thread, and that thread has been severed." His final statement on nightmare mode is that "nothing good" will come from the player continuing.

Separately, if the goal is it discover the identity of the Sleepless Outcast, the archives seems like the place to find it. Both because that is where all of the knowledge of the immortals is stored (so says the frozen merchant) and because the Sleepless Outcast on normal in the archives says something to the effect that "maybe we'll both find what we're looking for here."

On the other hand, the Sleepless Outcast is featured much more prominently in nightmare mode, with all of his invasions and whatnot. And the archivist suggests that all the knowledge of the archives has been lost (once you clear the area). So those points cut against the arguments presented above.

Edit: Sidenote, notice that the powercell in the middle of the Sleepless Outcast's armor looks like the powercell in the Alien Commander's Armor? Perhaps the Outcast is an alien invader? Although maybe that's just his art design with no deeper meaning.

Well I would think you instead just restore the cycles on the planet. That's what the AI awakens you to do after all and all you do is escape, if you actually do escape? I'm not sure. In some way I would imagine you become the new prisoner one. But also I don't think taking the red fissures is a good idea, maybe only for the alien commander but I don't think so for any other boss. Sorta how the guard won't talk to you if you have the hand of prisoner one he thinks your insane.
The Computer says to go to Fortess First. I don't have time to check that theory but it might be worth doing Fortess on nightmare first to see if anything changes.

Oh, Shreker of Worlds, that is a really good idea. Maybe defeating prisoner one without picking up the item might have different dialouge.

Well, I didn't bother to pick up flamesword on my last run (on normal) and nothing changed, so we can rule that out. Not that that helps much.

But what use could finding his actual identity tie into the whole story and ultimately the good ending.

Doesn't seem like not taking the hands does anything either. The NPC even says you have it even though you don't pick it up.

Where did you find this hint?

Possibly. But we don't know the good ending because it's objective. If it's destroying the cycles completely and forever cause we discover the true nature of the planet or if it's just if we discover the true nature of the planet or might be just restoring the cycle?

Well, we're not too worried with what the ending might be, we're more looking for the actual ending in game. As someone said above, the developer stated that finding the sleepless outcasts true identity had something to do with the good ending.
My problem with the "good ending" is the fact that bad ending and nightmare ending was 1 still image.... Is it really worth the trouble. If good ending is this hard to find maybe it is too convoluted. I mean people replaying the damn game when its probably something simple.

If we are being teased over few images with text I will be very disappointed in developer.

I hope not but instead something that reveals a mystery of the lore. Like what actually IS the true nature of the planet?

So I've been racking my brain trying to find things I might have missed.

I rummaged through the files in the installation in order to find any possible clues (I don't know why, really) and found a sound file titled "sleeping_alien_loop.ogg". As I recognized every other filename, but didn't remember any sleeping aliens, I decided to have a listen.

I can't seem to place where I might have heard this particular loop, if I have heard it at all.

Do you guys recognize it? Or could it be that we are missing a sleeping alien, somewhere?

Sleeping Aliens are challenges! There's slight ambience when you near one.
