Is there a way to actually use the Steam Overlay in-game to see/control what file to play?

Because Overwolf doesn't work for every game and it's just not working for me at all.

Programming an overlay is not an easy task. That's why it's build on top of overwolf, one of the best overlay implementations. No currently there no alternative. Sorry.
