Well, first I would like to thank Rebellion, for reviving one of my favorite games (and as for my opinion, the best in his unique genre.)

Secondly, I would love to see co-op as a core feature for campaign missions (story mode. Alternatively, to somehow adding these missions to multiplayer mode). Also any future expansions/ mods if presented. Maybe adding also some kind of difficulty option to it? Who knows? :steamhappy:

As for last but not least... adding co-op commander’s vs AI on multiplayer (more than one commander allied or enemy vs AI). I believe this was achieved with at least a few mods that i know about... VSR, dunecommand and ZTV mods.

OK so let me explain more about this... I'm not sure if you guys haven't noticed but.. Bz2 supports only MPI match type on multiplayer mode, in relation to player’s vs AI. Players are allowed to assign someone to be the commander (only one player allowed) main while the others are just simply pilots (which means commander must command/ feed the pilots with units in order to attack).

Well with time and experience I have notice that players doesn't quite play nice with each other since everyone wants to be the commander when someone makes a mistakes or while commander going to the bathroom (AFK) :P for a few minutes while forgetting to resign as a commander so that others could retake control. Long story short, just add it as a core feature instead of needing a mod for this and make everyone happy. Note that this would require big maps which bz2 already has, which maybe makes it easier?

I assume my first requests is really... troublesome, I know but it would make the game super fun if it had at least the second one or… both? :P.
Please do let know what you people think about this... your opinions and suggestions are important.

Dune Command was the closest thing we ever got to progressive COOP missions.

It is the only one I am aware of anyways.

I meantioned VSR because i could manually via console cmds configure the a big map MPI and set it to play with more than one commander vs AI. Also i could even make player & AI vs AI. Which was super fun. So as you can see... bz2 stock version doesn't provide this posibility and i would very much like this applied as feature. and NOT as a mod.


What console commands/how did you do this? I've been trying to accomplish this for several months now

What console commands/how did you do this? I've been trying to accomplish this for several months now
Note: Works only with VSR mod.
First you choose a big map like... "ice path" my favorite. (14 players i think...)
If my memory is correct.. these commands you should know for this:
network.session.ivar11 1 lock teams on
network.session.ivar11 0 lock teams off (u will see the Teams On/Off button)
network.session.ivar12 0 Allow 2 teams, only MPI should have this to 1
ivar3 = 0 // 1=Teamplay on, 0=Teamplay off (but this one is not needed as i think if u see the button..)
What we need is teamplay is on and MPI is off, it will look like a normal ST game, two teams of up to 5 players and u can use the FFA alliance page to ally up both human teams.
FFA maps can support multiple AI, team off should allow FFA mode style play
Mess arround with the settings until u can make it. It works with the latest 7.2 + VSR. I tested it my self. Enjoy.

Do you think you could break it down just a little more for me? I'm sorry to admit that my skills in anything beyond the department of just playing the game itself is somewhat limited. I know how to bring up to console commands, but what happens next? Does simply entering those commands work? What comes after that?

Yes ofcourse, lets go with baby steps just to be safe. Just make sure you have the requirements:
- Bz2 v1.3.7.2 patch installed: http://bzforum.matesfamily.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2567
- 7.2 sub build b132ak : http://bzforum.matesfamily.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2576
- and VSR mod: http://bz2maps.us/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=5045

Instructions:
- Now first launch the game
- Go host a multiplayer match
- Search for this map and select it: FFA: VSR ICE PATH
Remember... only VSR maps can do this.
- Go map options settings and select MPI mode in page panel/ tab 1.
- open console (~ + cntr) and enter this first command: network.session.ivar11 0
This will allow u to see the team on/ off button in game options settings.
- Now enter another command: network.session.ivar12 1
This will allow 2 teams for MPI mode.
- Now go game options and change teams to off
- go to settings and select page panel/tab button 3.
- This is called the alliance settings... please set the sliders accordingly until the very last slider:
Human team: 2
computer 1 team: 1
computer 2 team: 2
computer 3 team: 1
"" "" : 2
"" "" : 1
Repeat 2 and 1 as shown until the last computer... Always start at human team: 2 if you want someone else to play together with you as co-op.
- select page panel/tab buttons 4.
- now it's time to active your AIP's...but the question is how many ally's and enemies would you like to have? 1? ok set only cpu 2 to ISDF, scion or what ever instead of none.
U want 2? then set cpu 3 also and etc.
- That's pretty much it, now just launch the game or before launching the game set your prefered settings that you used to set in page panel/ tab 1 and 2.

No problem, happy to help. I only hope that Bzcc could have this feature without the need to use the console xD. i see here alot of you are also interest on this.

Afaik there is an MPI-map with objectives in it. Not to forget the recy-variant that allows the construction of extra recy-vehicles. Sort of already what is asked for (minus perhaps the hard objectives).
BZ-classic (and iirc VSR as well) has MPI maps with several teams (at least for the AI).
In other words, seeing what mods/maps/variants have already done, some good modder could probably make it happen in v1.3..
