Splitscreen co-op isn't working for me... help?

I tried going to the first co-op page and doing exactly what it says; I plugged in an Xbox controller and hit X on it, but nothing happened. It turns out that every time we plug it in, the controller registers as Player 1. Is there any way to change the player number to 2?

Nope, sorry but you need two Xbox controllers in order toplay splitscreen.
