Setting the games screen resolution

Is their a way that I can set my games resolution before loading up the game. I can't play the game due to not being able to see anything due to the size of my monitor

I am having the same problem! Just says can not run in this mode screen set at 1280 1024 the only way to get out of the game is go to task manager and stop prosess but that isn't good. The game is running and I can hear it just can't see it. Good luck!

Found out how to do it. Go onto Portal 2's propertys and then go on advance launch options. In the space type

-width 800 -height 600

This helped me out so much, 1+. I had been playing it a while ago and just went from Windows 8 => 8.1, and the game stopped working thanks so much!

I had this exact same problem, and this worked. But is there any way to raise the resolution without the same problem happening again?

...Or in short but not complete, edit the resolution vetical and horizontal numbers in the (default path) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\cfg\moddefaults.txt" for YOUR graphics card.

If the numbers for YOUR network card didn't work then try 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

thx sry if necro but this works for me, just had to change it to 1920 x 1080
