I have a theory about Portal/Portal 2.

I think that as Cave Johnson and Caroline were close and worked together, Chell could have been the daughter of the two, however was adopted by Doug Rattman as the two did not want Chell to become an obstacle in the workplace.

I think this as GLaDOS makes fun of Chell throughout the story, saying that she is adopted, and this links to the above. It also makes sense as in Portal 2: Lab Rat Doug follows Chell throughout the entire facility, which ties in as he might want to protect her. Chell might not talk as Cave Johnson, her supposed dad, dies in the events before the GLaDOS takeover.

And another thing finally, the thing I forgot to mention about the story is the other meaning to the ending. In Greek Mythology, heaven is a cornfield. When you die, you hear singing and you're accompanied by your best friend (the Companion Cube). The turrets shot her, and she heard singing.
GLaDOS may not of spared her after all.

I thought Cave was Caroline's Husband. As far as Chell being their daughter goes, I have formed the same theory myself.
As far as the name calling goes, I guessed you missed the sarcasm script reference that is referred to throughout the game, which also affects Wheatly when he takes over.

I doubt Chell is their daughter; mostly because her face is modeled off a Brazilian-Japanese actress, and while Caroline is potentially Brazilian (it's hard to tell from a stylized portrait, but she's not NOT Brazilian), Cave is definitely not Japanese.

If it wasn't for Doug Rattmann's very European name, I'd say he's potentially Japanese (again, hard to tell in the comic due to stylization, but he's not NOT Japanese). Somehow I doubt there was a Caroline/Rattmann pairing, however. I have some pretty wild theories about the nature of Chell, but none of them really require Rattmann to be her father, and considering the European name... yeah, seems unlikely.

It's also really hard to pinpoint when Chell was born. If she's as old as her model, she was possibly born in a timespan where Caroline, Rattmann, and Cave were all in the facility at the same time. However, in 200- (the year of the resonance cascade/GLaDOS' takeover), she had the handwriting of somewhere between a brilliant 5-year-old or an average 10-year-old. Her body might've been artificially grown faster than her brain, however, which means she could've been born in the 90s or 2000s--which would place her conception after Cave's death.

So yeah. I seriously doubt on any number of theory-tracks that she's related to Cave even remotely. Caroline, potentially, Doug, distantly potentially.

You have to remember that the Portal series takes place in the Half-Life universe, but the exact time both Portals takes place is rather nebulous. I think it might be safe to say that Portal took place not long after the events at Black Mesa, and Portal 2 might be taking place during Hl2.
But the exact times probably will not be known till HL2 Episode 3 is released, if we ever get to know at all.

No, Portal takes place during the Combine Invasion of Earth, as Aperture is in lockdown, probably because of the Combine. The end events of Portal take place during the 7 Hour War. I think though that Portal 2 takes place 20 years after the Combine Invasion, during this period Gordon Freeman is revived from statis and he destroys the citadel. It is unknown if the Combine are still on Earth. If not, that might hint that either:

We play Portal 3 BEFORE GLaDOS awakens.

We play Portal 3 as Doug Rattman ( That would be cool but how would we do the first person? )

We play Portal 3 as Chell attempting to survive the Combine Invasion

But then again, VALVe can't count to 3...

PROBLEM
My dad said somebody at the cafeteria ordered too many potatoes so everybody has to do a science project on potatoes now for Take Your Daughter to Work Day and lunch will be french fries. Mr. Johnson said we could use as many potatoes as we liked for our projects but I’m only going to use one. I asked my dad if I could do a different project because I already did a potato battery project in class last year and he said no, Mr. Johnson would get mad.
HYPOTHESIS
Probably the potato will do the same thing it did last year for my class project, except maybe not because I had a new potato last time and this one is pretty old. My dad says his hypothesis is that whoever ordered all the potatoes will probably get fired.
CONCLUSIONS
Last time my potato battery produced 1.5 volts. This time it got 1.6, so I guess it doesn’t matter how old the potato is. The current from the potato battery did not produce enough volts to power anything important. If I used more potatoes maybe I could have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ more volts, but the one dad brought home smelled and I didn’t want more.

If Doug was her father then wouldn't he recognize her name when looking at the list of test subjects and seeing that REDACTED sign by it? He said that he chose her because of a "hunch". And he's talking to himself just then so he probably wouldn't lie.
