My Portel.exe has stopped working

I bought the portel 2 weekend sale but now whenever my portal is on the first loading screen my portal.exe stops working can somebody plz help me.

Same here: Got Portal on weekend sale (double pack).
on Windows 8 pro, NVIDIA GTX 660 TI, new install of newest NVIDIA driver 314.22
Portal 2 crashes immediately after the loading screen.
The "compatibility mode" does not help the problem.

I have to say that PORTAL 1 and all my other games are running fine.
and the other portal 2 copy on my win7 machine is running fine as well.

Please help valve or whoever feels responsible here!

I found the solution: The post of Fire banana in a smimlar fred helpd:

I had the same problem and just recently found a very simple fix,
Locate Portal 2 in your steam library, right click and hit "Properties", navigate to the "Local Files" tab and select "Verify Integrity Of Game Cache". This should take a few minutes and once its done re launch portal 2. It will update for a minute or two then it should work.

Lasse, I tryed 2 times but it still didn't work I also tried deleting en reinstalling the game but it still didn't work I've mailed steam but they didn't mail me back it's been a week! thanks for your help it's to bad it didn't work.

Same problem, bought on weekend sale, worked the first day, next day it wouldn't work Verifying the game cache does not work, re-installing the game does not work, emailing Valve also does not work apparently.

I wish I could help U guys...if the cache thing dont work,
Try a few standards:
Install newest driver of your graphic card
Try compatibility modes = u find them by right click on portal2.exe
Close all unnecessary progs in background etc....

In my case, I went to c:\steamlibrary\steamapps\common\portal2\portal2.exe right clicked on it to run as administrator and ran it as Vista (running windows 7 os). Then it worked!
