Portal 2 not loading at all

I have tried everything to get portal 2 to load for me. I have uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. I have verified the integrity of my game cache and its fine. My computer surpasses the recommended requirements for Portal 2 and yet I can still not load the game.
HELP!

Are you running the latest graphic card drivers? Does it happen in any other game? Have you restarted computer?

Check your windows application event logs for the error code and report it back.

I have recently had an issue with KernelBase.dll appcrash errors which drove me mad, it was a simple solution of deleting the Portal2 folder from Steam and game profile in my documents then redownloading and it worked again.

No I didn't get any error message. I click play on and it goes black like its going to load and then it just goes back to Steam library.

I have just installed the lastest drivers and it still doesn't load. It only happens with Portal 2 (I also have Portal 1 which works fine). And i have restarted my computer multiple times.

I went to windows event logs and it says that Steam has a error which is classified as "Error: Failed to poke open firewall."

Are you using an external firewall (like a router) or have you installed a firewall software to your computer?

Do i need to Port Forward Steam?

If he needed to port forward Steam then he should have had problems with other games on Steam as well.

Instead set Steam to run with full adminstrator rights. That might do the trick.

I ran steam as an admin, but Portal 2 still does not work.

Run Portal 2 as admin also. If that doesn't help you should check out Steam Support.

how can i run an individual game from Steam as an admin?

Go to Portal 2 directory, typically its Steam/steamapps/common/Portal 2, right click on the portal2.exe, click properties.

Okay after launching it fromt he directory it now works... that was the wierdest problem. Thanks!
