community co-op maps - possible local co-op??

anyone know if its possible/impossible to play the community co-op maps with split screen local co-op?? tried to get it working but couldn't seem to figure it out..... i can get the valve made co-op maps to work with split screen and my two joypads are fine... but the workshop maps i couldn't figure out? are they online co-op only?

well looking around the forum i have seen a couple of others refer to a workaround which allows this to be possible my renaming a map and executing it from the dev console in game but im not exactly sure how it's done from the posts i've found... a nice clear description from someone who has got this figured out would be great please ;)
