So... Yeah... Crashes a lot for anyone else?

Hello. I have played this game for years and it's easily my favorite PC game. But over the years, the game has crashed a lot. I thought i'd buy the steam version as well (3 bucks) and it too, crashes very often. Every 3 - 10 turns. Don't suppose there is a fix/trick for this? Figure its just because it hasn't been updated since 2000.

Same here, I've tried it on various systems probably three times in the last decade; never been able to get more than 25 turns in. Horrible thing is, when it crashes it does so reliably; i.e. I can never do a certain battle because it consistently crashes, no matter how many times I quit and load. Oh, well, only $3.

never had this crash from disc version after maybe 4 full playthoughs. will see about steam version now that it's $3 on sale. I don't ever fight the battles though so...

mine crashes a lot too, and I always have to turn on the music. Never had these kinds of problem on the disc version. And I also have a trouble launching the editor :(

All I know is that it is a compatibility issue with windows 7 in my case.
Searched around for answers as well but didn't find any.

So we might fix some of the issues with running compatability mode on the game, or is that malfunctioning for this software like every other software?

GOG.com version works for me. Craches randomly when I go really fast sometimes but autosave helps.

This game has never crashed for me in my whole life, and I have played it a lot. Disc version of course.

Yeah, played disc-version for a long time, but haven't been able to play MP on windows 8, so am going to try on steam version. But now the editor doesn't work :(

It's not so bad for me now on Win7 and Steam but back on the XP with a disc it was a matter of saving every turn more or less. If I'm playing any kind of custom map it needs to be saved pretty much every time I move something/do anything or else; this was always the case on any platform. I find Win7/Steam and the maps that come with the game to be quite stable with few crashes. I think there was some hypotheses about units moving along the grey border at the edge of the map and crashing as well as excessive teleporter use by the AI causing crashes but who knows...

I've played the disc version for a couple hundred hours on win 98/ XP/ Vista/ 7 with very few crashes. The steam one crashes all the time. Realllly should have spend a few more minutes searching for my game disc.

i,m playing it on steam with 64bit win 7 an it crashes like cloak work, every 5-10min with out fail, sometimes just completely exitting an sometimes giving my a map draw error,
atleast its auto saving every turn but still very annoying.
an i also never had this issies with the non steamed version, so why is the steamed version so buggy?

Makes me sad. I was so glad to find this game on steam after having put a ton of hours into the demo disc back in 2005. The full versian is amazing, too bad it crashes...
