First of all let me give a very special thanks to Nyxo who made most, if not all, of this possible with his CT_Explore tool. He also made a defilter patcher for those who want that option.

IMPORTANT INFO: If you start a New Game with Mods and get a Black Screen, please start your New Game in Wait Mode, you can switch back to Active if you like after creating the file! This glitch doesn't affect New Game+ !!! More info: it seems that using mouse to start game even Active mode may avoid black screen and also the mods on the remurin site are outdated.

I have corrected another flaw in the UI mods, this time via optional patches that restore/remove the colored UI buttons. It has come to my attention that the colored buttons are needed for a puzzle in the 2300 A.D. Dimensional Vortex.

If you cant manage to remove the phone UI and replace it then I mean you could just change the color from blocky ugly grey to the transparant black from the battle UI. Then add the original font from the snes or ds ver.

Haven't been able to locate the font or where those black boxes are coming from.
The UI in this port doesn't bother me all that much.

Such MOD would be useful for me in the PC version of FF9, though. MAN, the battle menu there is humongous!

I have a feeling that, even if you remove the icons, they'll still function as those buttons. I'll take a look around for the shadow boxes and see if they could be removed.

What about the hp characters bars in battles? any way to remove it?

I could do a test but it seems that the HP and ATB bars use the same sprites. Removing that would make both dissappear and then you won't know who's going and when. At least, that's what I'm thinking before testing.

After removing the frames and text on the buttons for Menu and Map, I'd bet the remaining boxes could be removed as well if we knew where the game was setting the transparency for them. It'd likely be as simple as tweakng a text file, maybe. But as Azure said earlier, all of these buttons will still function as on-screen buttons. They just won't be visible anymore, which really is fine, imo.
