I launched the shank.exe from the Steam folder (...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shank\bin\Shank.exe) and got the error message that is not DirectX 9 installed. In the same folder I found, appropriately, also a DirectX folder.
So I started DXSETUP.exe from this folder and installed the missing files. After a restart, I got the same error message from Shank and installed DirectX again. Now everything works!
I hope I could help you.
Here again for my German colleagues:
Ich startete die shank.exe aus dem Steam-Ordner (...\Steam\SteamApps\common\Shank\bin\Shank.exe) und bekam die Fehlermeldung, dass DirectX 9 nicht installiert sei. Im selben Ordner fand ich passenderweise auch einen DirectX-Ordner.
Also startete ich DXSETUP.exe aus diesem Ordner und installierte die fehlenden Dateien. Nach einem Neustart bekam ich die selbe Fehlermeldung von Shank und installierte DirectX erneut. Jetzt funktioniert alles!
anybody knows a way to fix it?
The crash.log in in the shank directory was coming up with 'No valid display modes'.
To fix create a custom resolution in Nvidia or AMD driver software. Will have to look it up online how to do this. Pretty simple to do though.
You need to create a custom resolution like 1920 x 1080 but at 60hz. Then the game will work!
Nvidia:

All you need to do is change 120 to 60 and click test
The only thing I can think of is that I only have 1 graphics card in each machine. Even turning off 1 card may not be enough as I used to have SLI and some games would not work even with it switched off in driver. I had to either remove SLI bridge or remove a card and that solved it. Maybe this game is like that?
But for me running on 1440p displayport monitor @60hz and on 1080p TV@60hz with one card each and the game runs great on 64bit Windows 10 with latest Nvidia drivers and fully updated OS.
