Or even the Pacific ?

What would you prefer ?

You enjoyed playing through all missions ?

Did you try difficulty "General" ? It offers some interesting new aspects.

East Front, West Front, Pacific---if you're still doing anything with this.
Baby Jesus Feb 2, 2018 @ 2:36am
doing anything with what?

Was wondering if they were still doing anything with the game. Doesn't seem like it. Idk.

Sorry to say this but the sales do not justify an expansion. You can also see that this thread is from June last year and nobody cared during that almost six months period to even wish for something.

That being said the game is still supported as we fix bugs if they are reported and might add features or content, but most certainly only small stuff as this does not pay the bills and we still have to make a living.

Yes, you`re absolutely right it does not make sense to compare different titles, maybe what i did is to compare the freeware game from DMP (a free expansion of panzer corps called Ostfront 4.0, and the free Mod for PC called: "Pacific corps" ).

But Army General is a different game, so you need to give the title a fair chance and try to look more neutral on it, without judging your experiences witch similar games which you played before.

For me the market of Strategy games is quite competitive due to the fact that most players are "mainstream" players who play mostly stupid egoshooters, and the players of strategic games are only a small number of all players in general, plus dont forget that the small market of strategic games is competitive due to the fact that there are a lot of old and new titles coming from matrixgames, and it is planned, that this year panzer corps 2.0 will come out.

On the one hand the market is competitive, BUT on the other hand players like me play and try out / play many different titles at one time.

@wendt just to know, would you say the sales for army general were satisfiying for the development crew, (and for the publisher) ?

It's too bad. I'm a Huge wargamer. Hardcore games at that. Unfortunately for me, I only found this game yesterday or the day before. Didn't even know it existed.

Would also like to thank the ever-reliable Steam recommendations. As in, why didn't I see this almost a year ago? Wtf? Guess their system works as well as it ever has.

I'm also a professional game reviewer. I could have gotten a Lot of eyes on this title, for the dev's benefit.

The whole situation just blows.

Good luck @wendt if you guys try to make something else!!!

(plus, just by looking at it, I would have played the hell out of it.) :/

did it occure to you yet, that you wastly overpriced the game and effectivly killed it on release

i had my eyes on this at release, but your price effectivly put me off, shame really
Baby Jesus Feb 3, 2018 @ 8:40am
well what youre saying is not correct, we are not here to discuss the price, still the market of round based WW2 games is very competitive due to the fact that now similar game exist like panzer corps, or order of battle and soon panzer corps 2 will come out (i i suppose also with a minium 20€ price or more 50€ could be also possible for a brand new title!)
Drenus Feb 3, 2018 @ 8:55am
From my view it is the truth, nothing you Can do or say will change that, and i was quoting a dev post, not your op

Also the mentioned games has 10 times more content than this shallow 6 Buck iOS game

I never said you should not compare. On the contrary you should! Players have a great choice today which makes it ever more difficult for the developers, but i do not blame the players for it. If we did not make a game that interests a broad audience, its our fault.

<@wendt just to know, would you say the sales for army general were satisfiying for the development crew, (and for the publisher) ?

No, it was not satisfying at all. If it was, i would gladly make some more stuff as i like researching OoBs and recreate such battles.

@harley9699

Yes thats a shame, but thats how life is. Things only happen once, afterwards its too late. Bad luck for both of us.

<Good luck @wendt if you guys try to make something else!!!

It will not interest you as it will not be a wargame, but thanks anyway.

@Drenus

<did it occure to you yet, that you wastly overpriced the game and effectivly killed it on release

Of course we take full responsibility for the low sales. And we always analyse as much as possible what went wrong.

Was it the pricing ? Maybe. But that is just one link in the long chain that forms developing and releasing a game.

There are many other questions like this:

Did we choose the wrong graphic style ?

Did we choose the wrong setting ?

Did we choose a wrong date for the relase ?

Was it wise to enter such a crowded market segment ?

Did we do enough to interest the press in the game ?

Was it wise to invest more in the development than in advertising ?

I could go on and include actions happening on the market or in the development itself.
Only those who make the right decisions during all stages can hope for good results and obviously we failed along the way.
Nobody will ever know what the cause(s) was(were), because it is not worth anybodys time to take the neccessary steps to clarify this.

That means everyone can carry home their own truth and discussing it is pointless.

@ wendt

there are often good titles, where the 2nd part become horrible, and where another designers can have a chance to make good sell / revenue, for example yesterday i played the title from Spellbound (1998, 1999) called "Airline Tycoon Deluxe" and have so much fun with it (the game is also on steam). But sadly the AT2 (airline Tycoon 2) from kalypso games was a fault, maybe there is a possibility in the future that your design team make a progress development of an Title comparablie what i described?

Realize you had a setback, but at least try to be positive if you're making something else.
I never said that I was strictly a wargamer. I mentioned it in context w/ this game. I play and review a huge variety of games.

So saying that it won't interest me is a negative connotation and almost like driving off a prospective customer for your future! :D

More upbeat would have been to have said, "We failed to do some things with this one, we learned a Lot, so you'll probably be interested in our next one. Never count us out and just wait to be blown away by our next release!"

See the difference in the two approaches? First one: you're basically writing me off, while in the Second one, you're trying to keep me around and interested in what you have coming up.

Hopefully, this might help you with some PR, if nothing else :)

Maybe bring some customers into the next game---then turn them onto the first one later. Might even make enough money to add to/tidy up/re-release Army General---esp in a different, more visible manner.
Does that all make sense?
Again, just trying to help. No need to bury this one and write it off for good. :D

Hi folks,

thanks for your hints, i know you mean well and its much appreciated. My next project is already in work and its the the third generation of a game a friend and me created in 1995. Its called Toilet Tycoon (or Klomanager in German) and the new version will be modernized and expanded. Also it will be available for more platforms.

The current (and much older) version is also here on Steam:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/390220/Toilet_Tycoon/

And again: Army General will still be supported and might even get new content or features but this is depending on the time and energy that is left. Critical bugs will of course be adressed as fast as possible, but as the game engine is with us for several years, there shouldn't be any.
Drenus Feb 11, 2018 @ 8:08am
whelp, if there was ever a chance i would have bought this, you sure killed it off now with your ♥♥♥♥♥♥ advertising
