Nope. I mean have two, three, or four people playing on the same computer on one game locally.

so what you're saying would be something similar to the PS2's splitscreen, correct?
if so, that sadly doesn't exist on pc version.

Exactly like the ps2 version. Damn shame they dropped the ball on this. I was hoping to play this with my nephew.

Do GameRanger, GameMaster and other ways allow you to play split-screen? Otherwise I dont see how this would help the OP or myself in any way.

Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping to play with my son, guess I'll have to find a copy for PS2. Who would have thought that an aging console would prove to be superior to a much newer PC !!!!

Its truly a shame. Splitscreen is what really made this game the bomb to play with friends.

Exactly! Nothing beats the fun of playing together.

And by 'together' I mean in the same room, not linked merely via bluetooth headsets. I will never understand why the PC is still not looked on as a platform for local multiplayer (or gamepad support for that matter). Online has it's place for some people and some games but this worship of online play to the exclusion of any other sort of multiplayer is going too far down the wrong road in my opinion.

It's all about the monitor.

PC monitors don't traditionally have the same footprint as a television. There's much more screenspace on a TV, normally.

With the emergence of PC-to-TV streaming tech, you may see an increase in splitscreen offerings, eventually. But, only when streaming devices become ubiquitous. (That may take a long while or it may depend on a revolution in PC/Console tech.)

PC's are also, generally, placed in dedicated spaces that allow for multiple uses, like... doing "work" on them, writing/posting, using creative programs, managing home finances, etc. Consoles, however, are dedicated gaming platforms that also include applications dedicated towards providing entertainment through a television, which is normally placed in a central, easily observable, location where multiple people can participate in enjoying the entertainment.

It's not too difficult to figure out. :)

That is all true and I cant argue with any of it. However it does overlook the fact that if a game has been designed to allow for split-screen and online on a console then us PC users are getting less of a game if we are not afforded the opportunity to play it that way should we wish to.

I'm not saying split-screen should be the only multiplayer mode available just that we should have the choice.

Choice is nice, I agree. But, it wasn't included in the PC version... for reasons. :) (ie: It didn't make sense at the time, for a max 800x600 resolution, and... they wanted to maximize the online aspect the PC version was capable of. They also wanted to sell more copies. :) )
The PAC-man Apr 12, 2016 @ 3:27am
I do get what you are saying, but how would including more ways to play have resulted in less copies being sold?
Also I am a consumer, and as such I don't really care much for developers reasons behind silly decisions, (in the same way I do not care for politicians reasons for their silly decisions!) I merely care about the results of those decisions and how they impact consumers (like me).

You appear to be connected in some way to the development side of things from the way you talk, which is fine, you are probably more informed than I about these things. I just find it hard to understand a developers logic regarding these things, 'game is really popular on console, people love playing together split screen, lets make it for the PC and drop that aspect' no matter how you dress it, it doesn't make sense from a consumer point of view.
Druid Apr 17, 2017 @ 1:10pm
so there is split screen like ps2 version?
