Game crashes on start up
I went through a couple of other posts that sound like they had similar issues. However, even some only a couple months old posted this link:

http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=206018

It seems this link has been very helpful for many people, however when I try to open the link I get an error message saying the server can't be found... even though the browser can load other pages just fine. Can anyone summarize what worked, or anything? Used to play many years back, so I just picked it up again on steam.

1. Go to the GLDirect page on SourceForge. Download gldirect5_opensource.zip.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gldirect/

2. Extract the contents. Go to the gldirect5\bin\release folder.

3. Copy opengl32.dll to your GameData folder.

4. Play the game!!

Works now, THANK YOU!

Hello!

Thank you for this fix, it also worked for me. Here is a short summary:

Problem: Jedi Knight Academy (JKA) MP (jamp.exe) crashed instantly after the screen going black for a moment. jampconfig.cfg was not written to GameData/base (so the application didn't even get that far which led me to suspect it must be a video card issue).

Relevant system specs: My video card is an Intel HD 4400. The game was patched to v1.01.

Solution: The one above (download gldirect from sourceforge and extract the bin/release/opengl32.dll to GameData/).

Some more additional helpful information: Create 'autoexec.cfg' in GameData/base and add the following lines:

seta r_customwidth "1440"
seta r_customheight "900"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_displayRefresh "60"
seta cg_fov "100"
seta rate "25000"
seta cl_maxpackets "100"
seta snaps "40"
seta cl_timenudge "0"

Modify r_customwidth, r_customheight and r_displayRefresh as needed. This file gets executed everytime you start JKA. It will allow you to play in fullscreen mode, give you the best possible ping and improve your game experience by increasing your field of view (fov). Enjoy!

Do I need to download the mods? Or is it just for certain computer specs like windows 8?
eternal 31 jan, 2015 @ 15:00
What mods? Windows 8 doesn't cause any particular problems with the game. The game works perfectly on all Windows versions.

I thought the game was prone to crashes.

Game only crashes on certain video cards, usually ATI and Intel.
