Arena of Sanctuary Tech Update: Karma Cut!

The Arena of Sanctuary Mini BOX contains a couple of cool tech cards that fit into a variety of Decks. But the most powerful of those tech cards – Karma Cut – was actually available previously in Selection BOX Mini Vol. 02. Since Karma Cut’s original release in that Selection BOX, it has seen a ton of play in competitive PvP Dueling, gradually rising in popularity over time. Karma Cut is now one of the most powerful cards for fighting against the top Decks in PvP Dueling. Selection BOX Mini Vol. 02 isn’t always available in the Shop, so the re-release of Karma Cut in the Arena of Sanctuary Mini BOX gives Duelists a new opportunity to get Karma Cut. Karma Cut is a simple Trap Card that you can activate by discarding any card from your hand. Karma Cut targets and banishes a face-up monster on your opponent’s field and then banishes all cards with the same name as that monster from your opponent’s Graveyard. Since it’s easy to activate, Karma Cut will fit into just about any Deck.

Karma Cut lines up well against some of the most played cards in PvP Dueling. First off, since it’s a Normal Trap Card that targets a face-up monster on the field, it can be Chained to a card that threatens its removal from the field, like Hey, Trunade! or Cosmic Cyclone. Secondly, many popular monsters in Duel Links can protect themselves from destruction. But because Karma Cut banishes its target instead of destroying it, those monsters are helpless against Karma Cut. An opponent’s Elemental HERO Brave Neos, for example, will frequently protect itself from destruction by banishing Neos Fusion from the Graveyard; but if you banish Brave Neos with Karma Cut, the Neos Fusion in your opponent’s Graveyard will be powerless. Similarly, Shiranui Sunsaga can protect Zombies like itself from destruction by banishing a Shiranui monster from the Graveyard, but is powerless against the banishing effect of Karma Cut. Other important boss monsters used in top Decks, like Witchcrafter Madame Verre, Assault Blackwing – Raikiri the Rain Shower, and Invoked Purgatrio are also vulnerable to a single Karma Cut.

Removing an opponent’s monster from the field is the best part of Karma Cut, but sometimes its effect that banishes all other copies of that monster from your opponent’s Graveyard can devastate an opponent. Banishing an opponent’s Witchcrafter Madame Verre from the field with Karma Cut is good, but also banishing an opponent’s Madame Verre from your opponent’s Graveyard so he or she can’t revive it with Witchcrafter Holiday is even better. Banishing a Blue-Eyes White Dragon along with all copies from your opponent’s Graveyard can also be extremely powerful. Even banishing small but important monsters, like Shiranui Spectralsword, The White Stone of Ancients, and Superheavy Samurai Gigagloves, along with all copies of one of those cards from an opponent’s Graveyard, can sometimes have such a large impact that it makes it impossible for your opponent to win the Duel.

Karma Cut has recently been one of the most powerful Trap Cards used in PvP Dueling, and Duelists are now able to get it more easily than before since it’s available in the Arena of Sanctuary Mini BOX. Which Decks are your favorites to use with Karma Cut?

oh gosh, i don't think i'd run that card out of sheer pride then, woah. banishing monsters from GY and field, ouch. though, i do see its practicality, good for removing of annoying walls/beatsticks and shutting down the most extreme combinations like those weird Neos/Invoked decks or god knows what else...

from my perspective, a great card but too extreme for me to even consider running even if i dared to try it.
