Tech Update: Coral Dragon!

The Chronicle of Glory Mini BOX was just released a few weeks ago, and one card in the set has already risen to the top in competitive Duelists’ minds! Coral Dragon is being used in just about every Deck that can Synchro Summon a Level 6 monster, including Lightsworn Decks, Witchcrafter Decks, Crystron Decks, and Decks built around Akiza’s What Grows in the Graveyard Skill. Take a look at what makes Coral Dragon so powerful!

Coral Dragon is a Level 6 Synchro Monster that can be Summoned by combining any Tuner with 1 or more non-Tuners that have a total Level of 6. This simple requirement for Summoning it allows it to be used in just about any Deck with Tuner monsters, regardless of those monsters’ types. In addition to being a Synchro Monster, Coral Dragon is also a Tuner monster. That means you can use it in a Synchro Summon to bring out an even more powerful Synchro Monster, like the new Stardust Chronicle Spark Dragon. But that’s just a bonus. Coral Dragon’s stats and effect give Duelists more than enough reason to Summon it even if a subsequent Synchro Summon at a higher Level isn’t planned.

Coral Dragon has 2400 ATK, which is enough to pressure opponents and put them on the defensive. More impressively, once per turn, you can discard a card and then target any card your opponent controls. Coral Dragon destroys that targeted card. Just about anything your Coral Dragon isn’t strong enough to take down in battle, it can destroy with its effect. It can also get rid of cards in your opponent’s back row or Field Spell Card Zone. Coral Dragon is a versatile card that you can Synchro Summon to get you out of just about any situation.

Coral Dragon also has an effect that lets you draw a card if it’s sent from the field to the Graveyard after it’s Synchro Summoned. This effect will activate even if you use it as a Synchro Material in a Synchro Summon, making it the ideal card to Synchro Summon before using it as a Tuner in an even bigger Synchro Summon. Plus, if your opponent destroys your Coral Dragon or sends it to the Graveyard, the card you draw with its effect can help you make another big play, including the Synchro Summoning of another Coral Dragon.

There are lots of powerful cards in the Chronicle of Glory Mini BOX, but Coral Dragon stands out as the most popular competitive card in PvP Dueling. Which Decks do you think use Coral Dragon best?
