Way to mod this?
Curious on this point, is there a way to make a mod for this that makes it alot more immersive, exends timeline, and adds things like more resources and buildings/ units and unit types/more technologies/makes the political game within alot more interesting/ adds diplomic actions/ adds events/ Generally makes the game a deeper construct for earlier periods as well?

I am asking not only for this game but for Ultimate also... Looking at making a mod for either or, that goes back in time, but wondering if it is feasible with this engine to do so... IE is there a way to make the mods work the way I want them to.

So the only thing we really cant mod out is the road locations/Railway locations according to what I saw... is this correct? I did a quick skim over all the information in all the forums, though still confused though if resources(new ones) and buildings can be added... Along with if I can mod backwards(like say to 1400) and make the world and events happen according to historical happenings/plausible happenings with a certain degree?

Sorry for the questions, just trying to figure out if I should chose another game to do this mod with, though I'd greatly enjoy seeing Galleys along the shores of the great lakes and like :D

roads could be changed with the map editor... as far as an historical 1400 start date.. sure its theoretically possible... just rememeber it's taken BG many years to create 100 years worth of events and they don't all run in the same scenario due to the amount of debugging the events that would be requirred. Doing 500 years would be a nightmare. Not to mention th units, nations etc needed for that kind of time line. You're more than welcome to try though.

I dont plan on it being a short term project, I have many other mods I am working on, and projects of my own. I just thought doing the mods would help make my own projects too(more coding experience all around).

Well I wish you the best of luck with your project. I will just say keep in mind that the nation cap for a scenario is slightly over 200 (wanna say 255 but too lazy to double check) and while you could remove roads with the map editor.. the AI doesn't build them at this point. So there are a number of limitations you would need to work around. This of course isn't a complete list.. just the first two that come to mind. Any questions etc regarding modding i would suggest you post on the BG forums.. the modding community is small but helpful.

Can wrap alot of nations into 255 nations :D... Just throwing that out there, I wouldnt be surprised though if they decide to increase that number later.

No, that will not change. That's a hard limit.

Understandable, but in due time if you all decide to do earlier periods, it would have to be increased... thats why I stated later it maybe increased.
