Question about crafting
Say you're crafting an axe ... if it better to just use two items (axe head & shaft) ... or will adding four additional blue-tier embellishments that don't have powers increase the damage?

Uhh.. In general, adding a component is only better if it has stats.

There is a red gem that has the effect of increasing the crafted weapon's damage by a flat % per attached component, but that is a rare exception.

One thing to note, you can still add hilts onto hammers (after you already have Shaft and head).
I have not tested if you can add shafts to swords that already have hilts + blades.
But, cross guards are exclusive to swords, while hilts aren't... which is interesting...

Special notes:
If you find yourself carrying a fair bit of misc. crafting components around, make a dagger and just throw the components into them. You can right click your dagger at the crafting forge to get the components back.
You can also use stat scrolls on components to ensure your other items can be upgraded as you level.

Thanks for the heads up. I've not seen a red gem yet. Must be rare.

Shaft to sword blade would be really cool ... I want to craft a spear!
Would be nice if spears had bonus piercing damage.

building a sword (hilt + blade) then attempting to add a non-sword component like a head or shaft will give you a message: “You must remove the blade first”

if i recall

That's correct ... only problem, I wanted to build a spear ... and the game won't let me.

Pretty sure i had this message when trying to add a hilt on a hammer too. So i do not know how jwk achieved that...

hilts can be added to maces and axes with no problem for me too

Hilts? Gonna need to try to confirm that. Tried putting a crossguard on a mace once too and it did not work.

Yes, you can add a hilt onto a shaft after it’s been added to a mace/axe.

So you can add a sword component to a hammer but can't add a hammer component to a sword? Guess the dev should look into that.

definitely cannot add a crossguard to a mace, as intended.

You can't disassemble dagger back into components without a perk(I think).
jwk Dec 15, 2020 @ 4:36pm
You only need the perk to disassemble non-crafted weapons @The Arashi
