Upgrade movement speed?

I'm reading that engine upgrades were removed for "balance reasons". Please tell me there is SOME other way to increase my movement speed in this game - Crew? Equipment? Officers? Anything?

The default cruising speed is GLACIALLY slow and I feel like I'm spending 90% of my playtime in this game just navigating through bland mazelike corridors while I look for a new port.

Agreed. Its definitely a bit slower paced when traveling then I had expected.

Some ships are faster, the Outrider in Pan is the fastest I think.

Cheat engine. While I don't have a problem with Sunless Skies (much, much less grindy than the first one) it was mandatory for my later playthroughs with Sunless Sea; set up three hotkeys with speedhack (for 1x - fighting, etc, 2x - new default, 3x - going through areas you already know). Some people will say this is anti-climatic and "not the way the game is meant to be played" but honestly the purpose of the game is to give you fun.

Concidering how you have to go back and forth so much with little to no difference in what you meet it's definetly a problem. After you've met the same Tracker at the same spot for the 20th time it gets alittle old.

After playing tons of Sunless Sea, I felt the speed of this one was signifigantly better. I wonder what my opinion would be if I never played the first game.

Yeah after a few hours play I really felt the need for a boost button or some way to up the speed. During initial play while exploring it feels fine but once you start making circuits/runs it feels like a crawl.

While I don't normally advocate cheating in a game, cheat engine has a setting for adding hotkeys that speed the game up by x1, x2, x3, x4 etc. Using that makes traveling across known regions far less tedious on the 20th time. Keep in mind this setting does speed up the entire game, not just you. So enemies and supply and fuel consumption gets a boost too.

In my opinion, the game is in dire need of either some sort of fast travel, auto-pilot (not cruise control) or at the very least - some sort of an upgrade you can install to make your locomotive go faster. I've mapped out most of the first region and it's already kind of annoying to travel long distances, even though I want to. I've only spent 8 hours in the game, and I'm thinking whether or not I should hold off playing further, in case the developers would add something like this later on. Don't wanna burn out due to travel time boredom :)

Maybe a "cruise " mode where you can travel faster but dodging is a bit harder and no guns..keeps balance imho.. still like the game a lot!

I agree the game feels super slow.

My fix was to open Cheat Engine and use the built-in speedhack and set the gamespeed to 2.0 or 3.0.

I'm sorry devs, but traveling from port to port is dreadfully boring and if you won't give me a way to speed it up then I'll do it myself.

It becomes an existential question after a certain point. Is my time too valuable to waste travelling from one boring fictional port to another, only to have my fuel run out and have to ask myself this same question?
