But it really isnt...?
Those ign comparisons early on on their review where so hurtful to this game image. The only similarities, and those are expresedly stated by designer, were visual.
Any attemp to compare storylines and characters is just... Silly.
Saying for example, that Balthier is like Han Solo or Fran like Chewy (lolwut) is just... Flamatory bad reviewing, that for some reason, i guess the nerd cult arround SW, stuck.
What IGN comparisons? I'm just basing it on the story stuff that happens that's identical o.O
Just because you think the comparisons are "silly" and were "hurtful"(lolwut, as you would say) doesn't mean you can't draw those comparisons pretty clearly
Monster Arena was interesting endgame fights, but half the fun of RPGs, imho, is exploring the high level dungeons to get to those uber fights. Monster Arena didn't have that.
Quick Hit skill is just a bad addition to the game. You eventually just spam quick hit in endgame.
Loved the sphere grid over the license board, but everyone eventually becomes a copy of everyone else. Same problem in non-Zodiac Age FFXII though.
Wakka and Lulu, in FFX, irritate me. A blitzball weapon and a doll? Sigh.
FFX was very linear. I actually preferred FFIX over FFX for this very reason.
FFX's strong point, imo, was the story and that's really it. Well, maybe some extra credit for the sphere grid even though it seems generally pointless in end game.
XII was easily my favorite, with IX coming in at second place and IV coming in third.
I should give some credit to the original, but I haven't played that since the early 1990s.
I did like FFX but I can't be bothered to do the whole blitzball and jumping through hoops for ultimate weapons.
This chocobo race...
Blitzball was at least a little less annoying, since i replaced the whole Besaid team (including Tidus). Was more like a Blitzball-Manager game xD
I'm enjoying how this feels fresh because I've only played it once but i'll probably end up playing FFX through again because i've always been a big fan of it.
FFXs world setting was one of the most interesting non-traditional fantasy settings in gaming while FFXII is a traditional structure blending with a less common setting. Sure we have deserts and bazaars but it's still a story about knights, kings and magic artefacts. FFIX was a better traditional fantasy game.
blitzball has tons of RNG , you basically are required to get high level free Agents and brother if you want to have a chance
but otherwhise the PC version of X is great you can turn off random encounters , can speed up the game , always have full health and overdrive ( so basically you level with 4 times normal speed for 15 Minutes and get the s.level you would get in an hour
also theres mods and tools on PC you can just cheat all items like the crests
Are you saying you don't want to dodge lightning 200 times? Such audacity!
Yes, but in FFX there are important details and NPCs that feed you up world building and make it a far more enjoyable corridor than FFXIII, where all the world building is in a menu, which equals to read wikis for world building and is done horribly.

I also think it's one of the worst FF titles.
It has good characters, really most of them are lovable.
But it was the first FF game (at the time) not only to ditch free world roaming but going the extra mile and sending you on a road movie paper chase for the complete first half (or more) of the game. It's basicly watching Frodo and Sam walk to Mt. Doom. You only endure those parts of the movie because you know the good parts come between, unlike in FFX.
In retrospective the game is much better than it was perceived by FF fans at launch but this linear design took away a huge chunk of what people considered an "FF" game at the time. And for oldies like me, that feeling stuck.
The story is ok but not as good as people make it out. It's saved (again) by the characters.
Oh and the Mini-Games where annoying, Blitzball especially. Great potential, poor implementation. Somewhat more enjoyable in the remake where you can actually make out the map. Try it on an a PS2 with a 90s TV. That was just painfull. Would take a round of Tetra Master over Blitz every time.
Needles to say but i prefer FFXII.
