I talked with the Community Manager and he confirmed that they are busy with other things right now that have higher priority than the Linux port of Hunt.

In other words, this may happen in the future. But no promises, no deadlines.

Thanks a lot for asking about it, but I feel like there is a misunderstanding.

We are not asking for a port or any kind of official support at all. Windows programs and games can run on Linux using a software called Wine, which is even integrated into Steam, where it's called Proton. That is also what is being used on Valves upcoming console, the Steam Deck.

There is usually no need for game devs to do anything to get their game running in Wine/Proton. In fact, over 75% of the top 1000 games on Steam run on Linux despite almost none of them having any sort of official port or support (source: https://www.protondb.com/).

One issue however is that anticheats such as Easy Anti Cheat and BattlEye do not work by default. Since version 1.14 of EAC however, there is an option game devs can enable to make it Wine/Proton compatible. Enabling that should require no changes to the games code at all.

We are only asking for that option to be enabled, so the Windows version of this game is not blocked by EAC on Linux when running in Wine/Proton.

That means with the press of a few buttons, the game will run on Linux and therefore the Steam Deck when it releases, which I am sure a lot of people playing Hunt are interested in.

Thanks!

No there is a misunderstanding with this request. Proton, a software layer made by Valve allow games made for Windows to run on Linux OS without the need for developers to do any kind of port.

We could've already played Hunt on Linux but Multiplayer is closely tied to the Anti Cheat software working which up until now has had no work around. The owners of Easy Anti Cheat have updated their software to allow your devs to simply flip a switch and allow the Anti Cheat software to run on a linux environment.

We request the devs to simply enable this in the next build. We are not asking for a Linux Port, it is a completely different request all together.

Title of this thread is probably little bit misleading.
We ask to enable proton support(tool made by valve for running windows games under linux) in EAC build, which is now officially supported. Nobody asked for Linux port.

Port is NOT needed, we're not asking that, just to enable to make it start with Proton/Wine with the checkbox enabled by Epic
Someone on Reddit wrote useful wall of text about this. To make it much more accessible and easy to understand to specific people, who make decisions, you have to ask them for the SteamDeck support, not Linux nor Wine.

The page at http://dev.epicgames.com/docs/services/en-US/GameServices/AntiCheat/index.html#linuxwine/protonsupport says the devs need to test and activate client module updates regularly for Linux in addition to Windows. So it does look like it's more than just a 1 off toggle and they will need to add some extra steps into their release schedule. They would also need to be using EAC 1.14+ which might not be a simple thing for them to upgrade to (if they aren't already)
It definitely shouldn't be considered a Linux port, but they are going to want to test any enabled EAC modules to make sure they all keep working - otherwise there's going to be people complaining that they broke stuff.
They can do it like the devs of Vermintide, which is honestly enough and all we are asking for: Enable it as-is, keep it updated, but don't provide any additional support or guarantee that it actually works.

Oh, that's nice. I didn't know any company had actually enabled it yet. I figured they were all waiting for someone else to try it first and see how it goes :) Hopefully it all goes well with Vermintide and then more devs will start enabling it.

It's not enabled yet, but they made a post regarding it:

"Please be aware that whilst we will do our best to make it viable, it is unlikely that we will support Linux in an official capacity due to a lack of resource. Therefore, once live, we will not be addressing issues in Vermintide 2 that are isolated to Linux, and customer support will remain limited to Windows, Xbox and PlayStation only."

I havent seen those settings but I trust your assessment. In this event the devs could create a separate release branch for testing this on steam wouldnt you agree? We'd only have to opt into that branch from the library.
please enable "Proton compatibility" after updating EAC SDK
we don't need linux support, keep doing your thing, but it would be amazing if next time when you update EAC SDK you enable the feature...

from EAC devs mouth:
"To make it easy for developers to ship their games across PC platforms, support for the Wine and Proton compatibility layers on Linux is included. Starting with the latest SDK release, developers can activate anti-cheat support for Linux via Wine or Proton with just a few clicks in the Epic Online Services Developer Portal."

there are no excuses to not do it, so please if you don't want to enable it at least say it so we can stop asking and move on to another game.
i don't want to stop playing this amazing and unique game but i will not be using windows anymore

there was already a thread about this I think. It also probably devolved in the windows vs linux flamewar it always turns into.

Vermintide devs are already discussing about proton-eac, no word yet from other devs. Hope Crytek at least considers it, I had a blast with the game when it first came out in early access, but after switching I couldn't play it anymore

i don't care about WIN vs LIN, it's not the point... use whatever you want, i just want to have a choice...

i hope the devs don't start bullshiting about time restrictions and stuff, they will be updating the EAC SDK anyway, sooner or later, it would be just dumb to not enable it... let the linux community and proton do the lifting
no need for it, game runs fine as it is on windows
