The Patriot, Rapier and Hawk missiles are meant for attacking aircraft, not helicopters. As of now, aircraft are not part of the game, and thus such weapons have no place. The higher level SAMs, such as the Patriot, Rapier and Hawk for NATO and S-300s and S-75s for the Pact might be present in the sequel, which is supposed to introduce aircraft.
As for the Marines, there is the fact that this game focuses on the Armies rather than the Navy. An Army commander would be rather unlikely to get units of Marines attached to him, though perhaps they will be present in other sequels to this one.
Also Osa systems are in real world guided by radio commands, from radar equiped TEL vechicle, while in game they are infra-red...
As for the Marines, there may eventually be a Sequel/Expansion that adds a Naval/Amphibious Warfare emphasis to the game.
I agree that the AI Chopper rushes are annoying though, I would like to fight an AI with a more realistic approach to tactics, instead of just blindly rushing Aircraft into AA Defences.
Also, the SAMs are arguably the most simplified things in this game, even beyond fuel trucks being able to replace dead soldiers and MLRS rockets...if you just Wiki these things, you'll see that even the shortest one's range is easily half of what it is in the real world. But also, you'll note that it takes hours, sometimes days, to set up a good battery of SAMs with radar and resupply. SA-2s and -3s, which I do not believe are in this game (yet), take practically a day to move. They'd be old even in the 1979 scenarios, but they would show up nonetheless. SA-6s and SA-8s even need radar and whatnot before they can operate, they can't just slam on the brakes and stop a helicopter charge...even with backup sights and all that.
I'd like to see these things, along with static defenses like infantry foxholes, minefields, and all that, show up and work like FOBs now...place them at the beginning of the game and have fun.
