Game's running slow
Ever since I installed the DLC the game has been running slow. It would always run smooth before, but now it just takes 14 seconds in real life for 10 secons in the game. I can't figure out why. My pc runs Overwatch smoothty. I also finnished Sonic Mania a couple of times before the DLC and had no problem whatsoever. Am I the only one facing such issue?

Thanks KayJay but I was already in proper Fullscreen.

The slowdown is caused by Denuvo. There is a trigger in the time attack mode that causes a Denuvo to start write to its section, but the trigger isn't closed properly and it keeps doing it in a loop until the game is closed, which causes a massive game slowdown, especially on people with weaker CPUs.

I just got the same issue as the OP on my laptop. (My previous replies had been about a different type of slowdown.)

Fixed by turning ON Vsync. Note that this is in Fullscreen mode.

Until then, just as OP described. Game running at like 70% speed, noticeable before even leaving the main menu for the first time.

What refresh rate are your monitor running at while playing the game or when in fullscreen? This update didn't fix the frame rate being locked (between 40-60 FPS) to the refresh rate of the monitor so if the game/monitor is running at a refresh rate below 40 Hz then the game will run at 40 FPS and 66.67% speed (a 1/3 slowdown). This would explain why you're seeing the in-game timer take ~13 real seconds to reach 10 seconds in-game.

If you enable the FPS counter of the Steam overlay you'll be able to see what frame rate the game is running at. Anything below 60 FPS will slow the internal speed of the game down.

Thank you all for your support. Even though, the problem is still on. My monitor's refresh rate is 60 Hz. For some reason I can't enable the FPS counter of Steam. It is on in the settings but it won't appear in any game.

To be frank, this problem was triggered when I first entered a new special stage (it took me some time to find a large ring, I could only find one in Flying Battery). Ever since, all the game runs like it's on 40 FPS and I can't figure out why.

I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, playing with borders, enabling VSync, but nothing works.

It's really funny because Sonic Generations and even Sonic Forces run smoothly.

You're welcome. I hope there will eventually be a solution to your issues. Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy had a frame rate issue for a few people which was resolved using the following steps. Probably won't help but it might be worth a shot: https://steamcommunity.com/app/731490/discussions/0/1729828401674672810/

However, media is now reporting that indeed badly and rush Denuvo implementation has caused a slowdown for Sonic Mania DLC.

There is more info concerning Denuvo slow down for SM Plus on this post:

To be frank, Sonic Mania Plus DID feel rushed. Not sure what Sega was trying to do, here. >.>

True. Well, syncronized cross platform releases rarely go off without a hitch. But I think that's what they were aiming for here.

Well, as long as they actually fix the thing over time. They already released a patch so another one probably would not hurt. If they want Sonic Mania to remain good and popular, I mean...
