Disable big picture steam overlay?
I am launching the game through the regular steam interface yet for some reason the game has the terrible big picture mode overlay UI once I get into the actual game.

Is there a way to disable this but still use a controller? (I only use it as backup anyway) I'd like to be able to talk to my friends easier and I can't find the settings menu to turn on the FPS counter either.

Settings>In-game>Untick "Use the Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam enabled input controller for the desktop"

Cheers, late to the party but this saved my brain (or what it's left of it).

Tried this but it's still doing it even after a system restart lmao ... fml I wish I didn't turn it on in the first place I'm no longer in big picture mode but my overlay won't stop trying.

I don't have a controller active, so why do I need to do this.

Just wait until you find out that any friend invitation while you're playing gives you a full-screen interruption, even if you have Big Picture turned off. To head the question off at the pass, you disable the overlay entirely in the Steam options, "in-game", and uncheck "enable Steam overlay in game".

Wow, that big picture mode is cancer on a PC.
