Why do skills like Fishing-Pro or Master Collector suck sooo much?
see topic:

there's only a single armor set which supports "Master Collector" and that armor skill doesn't even skip all the tiring collecting-animations (minerals & bones). It only speeds it by a few milli seconds! I mean... really! It's even hard to see a difference!

Same goes for the Fishing-Skill:

it doesn't affect the appearing-rate of rare fishes and the big fishes are easy to fish out anyways. You can get them with one go as long as you "button-mash" it.

-------------

simply spoken:

it doesn't feel as if Capcom ever cared much about these details, even though Capcom makes such a big and shallow approach on "we create an awesome environment".

steamworks requires dragonvein yada, those can be gathered from outcrops, having geologist + master collector might give you some perfect gathering cicles once the outcrops are maxed (as you probably know the number increases after clearing a spot).
steamworks gives steel, silver and gold tickets and some garbage like ancient potions.

Master Collector saves milli seconds! That has zero influence how fast you switch between gathering spots. It's insignificant! Even with Hard Geology that means nothing!
with geo 3 and master collector you clear a crop somewhere between 1,5x to 2x as fast compared to just using geo 3. i tested it.
it might be insignificant if each spot has just 1-2 crops but once they are filled with 3 crops, its a noticable difference in shards/minute.

You don't skip the animation. The animation is... what depends the gathering speed. And especially when you gather high-quality items that animation is far longer.

So...

It matters nothing, whether that gathering-animation gets speed-up a tiny little bit. In total it's almost the same outcome. You barely speed-up 1 second or so per gathering spot like that. It's hilgarious!

In other MH Gens that skill skipped half of the entire gathering-animation at least... and that was already awful. Capcom could've done people at least the favor to skip the entire gathering animation per spot... means... you only gather once per spot and get the 4-5 materials all together at once.

But Capcom is like a teethless, debile, semi-blind old doggy... who doesn't understand its own world anymore! Which is why they fail on all the details!
from my point of view, having tested both versions on roughly 30 crops each , you must have done something wrong (or your game or my game is glitched or whatever)
Are you sure you equipped the chainmail headgear?

Ok, there exist 2 Armor Parts with that skill. I used the one from the Festival-Armor Set (torso). But it's technically the same skill and it only speeds-up the gathering-animation.

Which is...

...kinda insignificant in Guiding Lands, cause that animation depends on the grade of your gathering-reward. So, it still takes forever...

----> gather once per spot and get the loot for the entire spot at once. That's! How the skill should work! Then it wouldn't even matter, when you'd have to skill it to level 3 or 5! Or whatever!>>
