People losing data and Capcom Says NOTHING
Why is Capcom not warning players to back up their data? Why has this glitch been happening for over 24 hours and there hasn't even been an announcement? I had heard about the frame rate drops, but not this, so I stupidly launched the game not knowing it would wipe my save.

Wtf. WHY IS THIS NOT CAPCOM'S TOP PRIORITY. Even if they couldn't fix it, they could AT LEAST ANNOUNCE IT.

I am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Did you have any mods? AND, do you have steam and your steam library saved to the same disc partition?

I lost my data, and i didnt do a backup before... the only " solution " i found, its a base-game save data from a page for mods ( only 100% base game, fresh to start iceborne ) :l but you're right, it seems capcom didn't care about us

I am in the same boat wanting to play but it can't find my save file. But they announced that they are looking in to the issue and hopefully we get a hotfix cause I don't wana have to jump through 3rd party hoops to just play the game...

Yeah seriously performance issue is temporary, but losing your hundreds of hours worth of save? Ouch.. that's a HUGE one.

Luckily I logged in a while before IB to get ready but I feel sorry for those who didn't.
I hear that is a backup save in folder and could download save file from net if you dont start a new game on the same slot, it will overide
Got a problem search the forum 1st, someone had solve the problem already

When looking at store news under Monster Hunter World, there's a few articles about the save file loss problem but written by 3rd parties (Eurogamer, etc.). In the one 7 hours before you posted this thread, in the context of the save file loss it says

"A Capcom rep said the team is aware of the complaints and looking into the issue, but hasn't come up with anything definitive yet."

and at the end,
"There's no word of a resolution yet, but a Capcom rep said that updates will be posted when they're available on the Steam announcements page."
"Capcom will fix this when they can identify what dumbassed thing they did, when, and if or how to revert that without breaking the whole new DLC". They just want their launch to go good, get your money back for now if you can, your save file should be safe as long as you don't try to play the game.

I am glad I read this before launching the game. I know I played during 2019, but there is no point in running the risk of corrupting the save.
