The Texture Streaming Pool option is useless
Ok, let me get this straight. For a while now ive been setting it to High thinking "Oh i have a gtx 1080 and have 8gb of Vram i should be fine on high", nvidia even recommends this option to me. I dont know if the settings menu was updated to say this or what but I read today that High sets it to 1GB, while low sets it to 400MB? What kind of cards do people have that makes the devs think these should be the high and low values? In the beta there was a "5000" option that made me use 5GB for texture pool streaming.

I take it off High and put it on "Off" where it says it would make the pool unconstrained, and what do you know! Higher fps, less studdering, and faster loading. I dont see any reason for anyone to use High or Low.

If anyone is having issues, just make sure its off. If you dont want it unconstraigned but want it higher then 1GB then just do this to set your own max value:

Add
[TextureStreaming]
r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=5000

to your engine.ini file in Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Insurgency\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

(5000 is used for 5GB vram for example, set to whatever you think would be appropriate for your card)

Yep, as I said in my Guide and many posts: The part that says "r.Streaming.LimitPoolSizeToVRAM=6144" and "r.Streaming.PoolSize=6144". That is what I said should be 2GB less than your total available video card RAM! My card has 8GB, or 8192mb or RAM. Subtract 2GB/2048mb from that, and I get 6144, thus my value there. I got the idea to do it this way from Apex: Legends and how it was suggested to select a "Texture Streaming Budget" that is 2GB less than your VRAM, so I applied that line of thought here for Sandstorm. I believe the developers should change the options from "off, low, high" to actual GB numbers like in Apex: Legends and have a tooltip to pick the amount 1 step below your total VRAM.

Ah i didnt see your guide dude, nice work! I just cant believe how stupidly low the High and Low options are, who tf would benefit to limiting their card to only 1GB, let alone 400MB!

I just hope people dont just give up on the game because of a dumb issue like this.

Unfortunately, a lot ARE! But I think we are helping the devs out with the guides and polls. I don't know what exactly helped the most, but the INI edits I did REALLY make it MUCH more playable now. I hope they can figure out which of them do, and incorporate them into a hotfix soon.

tbh i miss the options in the beta, it made alot more sense. Limiting the options to two small values and calling them "High" and "Low" is pretty bad and confusing.

Been scratching my head about that option as well, setting it to 'low' is just 400 MB and 'high' is 1 GB? I have 11 GB of VRAM on my 1080 Ti !!! The 'off' option is just confusing a lot of new players, a better label for this would be UNLIMITED in my opinion. And yes, being able to put a number there would be better (people generally know how much VRAM their videocards have) but that's not available in the settings and requires people to mess around with .INI files. :steamfacepalm:

I certainly agree. It almost feels like during the beta where there was actual values to select that made sense (The highest choice was 5GB which is what i used), but some people were confused and messed stuff up. Honestly the way it was in the beta was much better.

I usually dont recommend altering ini files, but this one change can make the game run so much better. I wouldnt change anything else other then this.
