Official Sept 13th Update Performance Feedback Thread
If you are having performance issues after today's September 13th patch, please share with us a little information about your hardware so we can work to improve how the game runs. Please ensure you test on this patch before you give feedback!

Sandstorm now offers a lot of ways to customize video settings, so please be sure to fine-tune quality and performance depending on your system specs. In particular:
  • Texture Streaming Pool Size needs to be adjusted depending on your video card. We recommend starting low and increasing to see what your GPU can handle. Setting this too high will cause noticeable hitching because your GPU is overloaded.
  • Shadow Quality as well as Dynamic Shadow Resolution and Cascaded Shadow Map Resolution have a pretty sizeable performance impact, so we recommend lowering these settings as much as possible if you’re experiencing performance issues.
  • Full Screen display mode is really important to ensure you’re getting an accurate depiction of performance. If you are struggling with performance and haven’t already ensured you are in full screen mode as was advised in the last hotfix announcement, we highly recommend you switch to full screen mode as soon as possible.
To see your system specifications, go to your Control Panel, System and Security, and then System. Or view your DxDiag file (see below). Please include as much of the following information as possible:

1. Operating System
2. CPU
3. Graphics card
4. RAM
5. Hard drive
  • The one where the game is installed.
  • Need to know its model and whether it is Mechanical or SSD.
6. Describe the symptoms of your performance issues.
  • Consistently bad framerate (provide numbers if possible), occasional stuttering, lagging only during certain actions, lagging in certain parts of a map, etc.
7. Your DxDiag file
  • Search your computer for DxDiag, run and export results as a .txt file.
  • Please use or a similar site to share.
8. Screenshots of your video settings
  • With Steam overlay enabled you can take screenshots with F12, upload them to your Steam Library, and share here.
  • Alternatively, you can use or a similar site
9. Your render mode
  • Are you in fullscreen, borderless windowed or windowed mode?

1. Windows 10 64-bit
2. Ryzen 7 1700x @ 3.8 ghz
3. GTX 1080 8GB
4. 16GB DDR4 @ 3000mhz / 16-16-15-35
5. Game is installed on an 840 EVO SSD

Performance issue symptoms:
I have RTSS and Afterburner running, so I can show you what my CPU usage/GPU usage is

Video settings:
I've been using all low up until this last patch. Using Auto in a server with maybe 16 people in it and not a lot of action, I'm easily hitting 70-90FPS so far.

However, depending on which part of the map I'm looking at, there can be large and sudden drops in my framerate (as one would expect). I don't bother using FPS smoothing in-game because it causes a terribly inconsistent frametime, causing even more jutter evne when the framerate *DOES* hit 60.

As expected, high scope quality is an expensive visual effect. It causes a heavy dip in frames.

Fullscreen or Windowed?
Fullscreen or die.

Saved for future edits, will be posting more in a few

Thank you for the update.

Added Auto quality preset button which runs a brief benchmark on the player’s system and applies suggested settings.

If i select that option it cut all of my FPS to half or even less on the main menu. I don't think that option is working properly.

Forgot to mention i like the new scoreboard look

I've a strange bug. I just can't play the game on 1680*1050 Fullscreen. It works on borderless and windowed well but the screen just goes to the right of the monitor when I choose Fullscreen.

On other resolutions there aren't any problems whether I choose Fullscreen or the other options but my default res is 1680*1050 and I just can't play on Fullscreen due to the screen gliding to the right.

Please try to fix that it's very annoying and I just can't try the performance improvements because I just can't play Fullscreen on my native resolution.

Win10 64

i7 980X 4.2Ghz
16GB Ram
GTX 970 SLI (SLI Not working)
2TB HDD (Games on)

This patch fixed every performance issue for me so far. Now the Single 970 runs at 100% at maxed settings 1080P. But the single 970 Just cant really keep up at max settings. So a SLI support would be nice to see!

The only freezes i get is when you spawn in the truck or a ammo crate blows up!

Game crashes consistently after waiting 3-5 minutes at 95% when loading a match, sent a crash report just postin this here

Still no sprint toggle fix.

Just want to thank you guys for the hard work youre putting into the game. Nice patch so far didnt have any issues so far. However optimazation is still not the greatest
1. Windows 10 Pro (1803 build 17134.228) x64
2. i5 4690k @4.2GHz
3. GTX970 G1 (Gigabyte, 4GB VRAM)
4. G.Skill 16GB DDR3
5. Crucial MX100 256GB SSD

6. Frame drops on certain parts of the map, depends where I'm looking at. (especially Summit-Push)
micro-stuttering almost always, Frame smoothing helps but then I have more input delay if I'm not mistaken.
More noticeable stuttering/freezing when engaging in a fight or getting shot upon (it skips couple of frames making it impossible to react)
Biggest issue I have: INPUT LAG - following a target at a distance/killing it, almost impossible.
Input Lag+Stuttering in a fight makes me wanna break something (I threw my G900 off the table the other day) I HATE UE4
Game freezes for half a second whenever I press comms key or view the scoreboard

7. DxDiag

The game plays out almost identically on High or Low settings
FPS range from 60-200 averaging at 100fps on most Push maps
Terrible screen flickering while in smoke (probably mitigated with V-Sync turned on, but INPUT LAG ffs :)

9. Fullscreen @1080p 60Hz

1. Windows 10 64
2. i5 6600k
3. GTX660
4. 16gb ram
5. 500gb SSD (Samsung Evo)

Running all low settings, performance as I would expect given graphics card.

1) In mid round, my character froze, game not responding to keyboard/mouse and audio died. Still other charcaters moving on screen. I died and then still no audio while spectating. Audio and keyboard/mouse response returned when I respawned.

2) When this happened a second time, the game actually crashed. When i closed it and relaunched I could not get back into the game. When clicking "return to game" I got a message "unkown match player" first, and then next times could not connect. I cannot requeue for a new game either.

neither of these happened before this update.

I am using the lowest settings possible and still getting bad framerate. If I stay still at a place my FPS will be around 130 but if I run or move my mouse, my FPS will drop massively to just 1 and 2 FPS. My FPS fluctuate quite often between these numbers. I am running the game on Fullscreen mode.

1. Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
2. CPU: Intel i5 6400 @2.7Ghz
3. GPU: GTX 950
5. Hard drive: Mechanical
